I've heard many times that some partners are "coin operated". What does this mean?? I think it means that partners are measuring the ROI of a service offering or partner program.. after all, any activity either costs them time or money, or both. Ideally vendors and partners should be explicitly aligned on at least 3 of the following measurements: ·      Revenue growth ·      Partner Program participation ·      Pipeline creation ·      Customer retention & growth ·      Training & enablement (certifications & competencies) These are the main metrics that provide clarity on what’s working and what needs adjustment. By focusing on these, both the Partner and the Vendor can quickly identify the who is driving the most value. And that’s the core of ROI: optimizing resources for maximum returns. If there is a feeling that partners aren't engaged then ask yourself: is your enablement helping them grow their business? If partners feel supported, and the profitability is predictable, then they’ll continue to contribute to your success.

"The Power of Tomorrow" is something I often think about. Most of the technologies we have now will only improve, in scale, speed and function. Of course, our usage of those technologies could accelerate a technological higher human purpose, or just lead to terminal enshittification, model collapse, overall platform decay. 👏 Some great commentary in Computer Weekly from Lord Holmes here, particularly referring to AI. “Days later, when we were still barely recovered from the election daze, the government announced that DSIT will expand in both scope and size bringing experts in data, digital and artificial intelligence (AI) from the Government Digital Service (GDS), the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) and the Incubator for AI (i.AI) to unite efforts in the digital transformation of public services under one department. Not only is this measure intended to improve the British public’s experience of interacting with the government, it is also expected to “help remove roadblocks to sharing data across the public sector”. This is so important, as is the commitment to “ensure the government has the right infrastructure and regulation to become more digital”.

"Ransomware" is a trending term at the moment, with the announcement of the ICO handing out a hefty £6m fine to a large IT services firm, a flurry of attacks being made against museums across France during the Olympics, and new strains coming to life weekly... Okay that last one was made up, but you see where I am going. Ransomware can be a devastating to any organisation: - the recovery costs, - the reputational damage - the time lost.. It all adds up. Earlier this year Sophos released "The State of Ransomware 2024" report, where they state that the avg. recovery cost (excl. ransom payment) reached $2.73M. This article reminded me of a conversation i had with Gareth Edwards at GoCodeGreen | B Corp™ about how companies are not fully considering the impact of location, and the quality of green energy in the grid. That makes a lot of sense, the volume of electricity from renewable sources in the grid in Glasgow or Edinburgh is far greater than in the City of London. when that is compared to offshore locations where data centres are held or software engineers are located, two engineers doing the exact same job can produce two massively different carbon footprints. I know that James Stubbs and Cyberfort make considerable effort to ensure the electricity for their data centres is 100% renewable.
