A quick look at Costmine Intelligence’s property database identifies six copper projects in Anglo’s portfolio (all at Advanced Exploration), and two nickel projects. Anglo’s equity in five South American copper mines, plus three wholly owned nickel operations make this a pretty clear Energy Transition play. The main downside? How to strategic-review the thermal coal out of the portfolio.

On-site renewables and electrification are revolutionising mining, with BHP leading the way by targeting a 30% reduction in operational GHG emissions by FY2030. The latest Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) case study prepared by Fleet Space Technologies covering Inflection Resources Ltd. Duck Creek project in the Macquarie Arc, Northern New South Wales. The ANT images provide new insight into the basement geology masked by a veneer of post-mineral sedimentary cover.  The survey has highlighted complex areas of low and high velocity in the basement sequence where Inflection drilling has returned favourable alteration and geochemistry. Good to see more encouraging results from Laramide Resources Ltd's Westmoreland uranium project in Australia. Growth in global demand for nuclear power means that more uranium will be needed, and exploration programs such as this have the potential to deliver new mineral resources to support this planned growth! #mining #uranium #exploration

🌍🔍 "Geologists: The Unsung Heroes of Our Planet!" 🌍🔍 We all know geologists are an amazing bunch, held in awe and esteem by other professions. But, it's still interesting to get the other side's perspective. Most geologists would probably say their natural adversary is drillers. As Erik C. Ronald observes, ‘Many geologists view drillers as most people view their home dishwasher: useful when working, messy when broken, but don’t try to get a meaningful conversation out of them’. Conversely, drillers view geologists as ‘overpaid, know-it-all, four-eyed oddball(s) who get their kicks licking rocks all day’. However, the greatest enemy might actually be the mining engineer. Better at maths and less fond of the outdoors, mining engineers are typically paid better and more likely to be groomed for management positions than geos. As the saying goes, ‘geologists create the dream; mining engineers kill it’. Love them or hate them, geologists have done what few scientists dare to: carve out a distinct public identity. 🌍🔍 As John McPhee wisely said, 'Geologists are people who see the world with a sense of wonder and awe.' And let’s be honest, that awe sometimes comes with a side of dirt and rock-related puns! The British Geological Survey has recently published “World Mineral Production 2018-2022”, representing the continuation of a dataset that originally began in 1913. The document contains production statistics over a five-year period, for more than 70 mineral commodities by country and worldwide. Interpretation will be somewhat challenging, as the data covers an eventful reporting period, against the backdrop of a global pandemic, a changing geopolitical landscape, and greater emphasis on ESG. #criticalminerals #criticalmetals #tantalum #niobium #titanium

Another takeaway from this year's International Energy Agency (IEA) report: investment in critical mineral mining only grew by 10% in 2023. The investment required is truly staggering.
