An important empirical study by my colleagues Samantha Attridge, Bianca Getzel and Neil Gregory -- analyzing why institutional investors are not allocating more of their funds to emerging markets and developing countries, and providing pointers on what could (realistically) be done. This goes right to the core of the private capital mobilization challenge in the G20/MDB reform and the COP climate finance agendas.

New Norfolk FinTech Cluster Revealed as One of UK’s Most Significant InsurTech Centres, Outside of London Julian Wells, Director and FinTech Lead at Whitecap Consulting, said: “Throughout this project we have experienced the collective desire of a wide range of stakeholders across the region to work together to develop the FinTech sector. Norfolk is the 10th region of the UK that Whitecap has analysed in this way over recent years, and what we have found in this region is an emerging and distinctive FinTech ecosystem. “Whilst the region is smaller than others we have reviewed, the strength in InsurTech comes through very strongly in our findings, and for the first time in any of our reports this is found to be the most prominent FinTech sub-sector. It is also the first time that payments have not been the leading sub-sector in a region. The proportion of female FinTech founders is the highest we have observed to date, giving Norfolk a crown that every region would crave. This Bank of England Staff Working Paper analyses the importance of climate-related investment using a large economy-wide survey of UK firms. Over half of firms expect climate change to have a positive impact on their investment in the medium term, with around a quarter expecting a large impact of over 10%. Around two thirds of these investments are expected to be in addition to normal capital expenditure, with some firms investing less elsewhere. Climate investments are expected mainly in switching to green energy sources and improving energy efficiency, and firms expect to finance these mainly using internal cash reserves. Climate investment will be driven by larger firms as well as those in more energy‑intensive sectors. Although firms are expecting to invest more resources in adapting to climate change, under reasonable assumptions, these investments are still not sufficient to meet the estimated targets implied by the UK Net Zero Pathway.

🐝 I'm proud to share Great Yellow’s role in structuring Grosvenor Property UK's investment into Terraformation's #Regenerative #Development of Anlo Wetlands (ReDAW), project in #Ghana. The project will reforest 3,000 hectares of mangroves in the Keta Lagoon, with the potential to expand and go further, whilst focusing on how mangroves can enhance local economic and social resilience through improved aquaculture. 💹 Building capacity in high-integrity projects like ReDaw is essential. This investment acts as a catalyst for such efforts. I'm particularly pleased with how we balanced early funding for key development milestones while finding creative solutions to reduce delivery risk. Addressing the early-stage project finance gap remains a key challenge in the #carbon markets. Great summary as ever by Jamie Broderick of this important report commissioned by Better Society Capital . There are in fact two fundamental reasons why a future government absolutely should explore an outcomes-based approach. Firstly that this is a way of funding crucial complex services - with upfront capital from social investors - that otherwise probably couldn’t be funded. But secondly - and at least as importantly - organising public services around the actual outcomes citizens want and need is just a more effective way of delivering public services. It is better for citizens and staff as well as the taxpayer.

Today’s ruling is more evidence of the UK’s failure to meet its #climate targets. This risks further alienating #investors seeking a coherent and consistent policy approach to the #netzero transition, putting growth and jobs at risk. As election campaigns begin this is an opportunity for the UK to re-establish itself as a climate leader, giving investors the confidence they need to make long-term investments.   To help, Our Call to Action outlines investor priorities for the next government. It lists 10 clear policy asks grouped under five areas which can accelerate the UK’s transition to a competitive, energy-secure and net zero economy. It was informed by detailed insights from our members.   This includes developing a whole-of-government approach to the delivery of net zero targets, devising a comprehensive green industrial strategy that supports decarbonisation and competitiveness, and increasing the UK’s adaptation and resilience to climate impacts.   Whoever wins the right to lead, we hope they seize this moment to shift gears and pivot permanently towards decarbonisation.   Thank you to the many members who shared their experiences, including Faith Ward and Chris Dodwell. All good recommendations from Martin Wolf, but lacking one key reform: teach people about finance. We continually see too many recommendations that suggest changes that assume either full financial literacy, classic "economic rationality" or the opposite, that there's no point educating people, just do stuff for them.
