When a new trend hits that isn't well defined then software providers leap to brand their technology as part of that. Back in the SOA days this had legacy integration vendors slapping ESB stickers on it quicker than David Chappell could print copies of his book. In 2025 this will happen with "Agentic" or "Agent AI", rules vendors, workflow tools, package vendors and more will all be claiming they are in fact Agentic AI. There are many views on the #enterprisearchitecture role and its interpretation. The job description might cover a whole set of requirements, from IT strategy alignment to balancing cost and technical advancement.  However, the enterprise architecture role truly shines in these challenging topics. Not every organisation has a well-defined or close-to-defined IT strategy, and there's often a question about strategy ownership. The enterprise architect guides the business through transformation, from strategy alignment to adopting the right technology, without creating technical or architectural debt. Despite all these challenges, the enterprise architect's role is relentless. They are the ones who own, advise, and consult multiple stakeholders on technology transformation. Their role is not just about developing artefacts and blueprints but also about ensuring business value delivery through predefined metrics or taxonomy. This is a key aspect of their role.

Are you really an architect?! 💭 Lots of great comments and insights on our architecture content recently. However, there seems to be an underlying theme that is appears to be a disconnect across architecture. Some recent comments have been: ▶ Solution Architects are smarter than Enterprise Architects and therefore EA's are made redundant because ultimately businesses want speed and SA provides that ▶ Niche Architects arent real architects. More like developers ▶ Niche Architects are just architects with additional skills attached but companies dont know what to do with them ................................................................ I disagree with the comments above completely but a few questions to pose: Q. Is there a disconnect within architecture teams based on importance? Q. Does anyone agree with the statements above? Q. A good day at Salesforce AI Now Tour / the launch of the Salesforce UK AI Centre. A few initial thoughts from my side:- - between Data Cloud, Prompt Builder and Copilot [in turn building on Flow, LWC, Apex, Mulesoft] there's a very capable set of 'lego blocks' from which it's actually pretty easy to build powerful AI capabilities into Salesforce apps. - Data Cloud goes further than I thought from initial training / certification, particulatly in terms of it's integration into Salesforce beyond just being a possible source of data / target for things such as Marketing Cloud customer segmentations. Examples of relatively seamless related lists / reporting across Salesforce objects and Data Cloud objects made this very clear - your unified Data Cloud objects [DMOs] can be a very 'live' part of your Salesforce CRM. - Prompt Builder [and the broader Salesforce AI architectural approach] allow you to exploit your CRM data in Generative AI use cases [e.g. generating personalised sales emails] without exposing anything sensitive to the outside world, providing the best of both worlds [your proprietary information + LLM models]. Salesforce's emphasis on Trust in AI makes a lot of sense here. - Copilot presents a pretty compelling vision of 'action lego' - providing a pre-built set of actions triggered in response to prompts but also allowing easy development of custom actions [realised in Flow, Apex, built from the Prompt Templates above...] I'm genuinely quite excited about this - expect to see some interesting and innovative use of these tools over the next 12 months.
