The claim is that many C-suite execs have lost confidence in IT, including CIOs via CIO UK Events by Grant Gross https://lnkd.in/eETTtaEk Our abilities to prioritise and allocate limited resources effectively have become the defining factor between success and failure. My position right now is that the IT landscape has grown so intricate that no single person, solution, or system can fully comprehend it. As an example, the security cat-and-mouse game between attackers and defenders is no longer sufficient to address known risks and emerging threats, and we have spread who owns this risk to widely. Fundamentally, the interconnectedness of our many systems creates unforeseen risks that often surpass human comprehension. These "quantum risks" push the boundaries of our current capabilities, manifesting in ways similar to supply chain failures, product malfunctions, or cloud infrastructure outages. The distribution of IT and risk management, security, and privacy functions across our leadership team, skilled people, and organisational functions – necessitated by diverse legal requirements and specialisations required – inadvertently creates gaps and vulnerabilities. Addressing these gaps and preparing for the "New Normal" requires more than just reallocating existing resources; it demands fundamentally rethinking our #governance, infrastructure and platforms. I don't see this coming from those who are blinded by the IT, risk and cyber security circus, our CISO, the CTO or the CIO. They have become too precious about solutions and too busy to think outside of their paradigm. Others don't know what questions to ask. A significant challenge lies in our leadership team's ability to effectively discuss and address these complex issues. The technical depth of these new risks often exceeds the expertise of non-technical individuals and companies, leaving many ill-equipped to ask the right questions or understand those that are asked. Simplification or reduction does not work. Green dashboard indicators fail to reveal the blind spots we don't even know exist. The problem we face is that tech (CTO, CIO, CISO, CDO), along with security and defence governance, has become largely reactive, with "best practices" becoming obsolete before being implemented in the face of rapidly evolving threats and we don't have the skills at the board to know the right questions to ask .... unlike finance and marketing. What does this become - a loss of confidence, but not in our tech leadership, but in our ability to ask the right questions?

After this morning's Cornwall Insight webinar on REMA/LMP with Kate Mulvany, I want to express my gratitude to the 330+ participants for joining and actively engaging with questions and comments. During the session, we strived to present both sides of the argument regarding LMP coherently, considering the time constraints, which I believe we achieved successfully. The lively discussion in the chat highlighted the significance of LMP to many individuals, with a swift exchange of responses indicating a strong willingness to debate. The numerous questions raised during the webinar regarding the underlying assumptions behind the analyses are shaping perceptions and emphasizing the concerns of customers and smaller industry players. This underscores the weight of the impending policy decision on LMP, necessitating a robust evidence base. The responses and counter-responses from the audience emphasize the magnitude of the decision-making process ahead. It is evident that compiling a comprehensive evidence base will pose a significant challenge, as evidenced by the diverse viewpoints shared during the webinar. We are currently addressing the questions raised during the session and will provide responses shortly. Stay tuned for further insights and updates.
