I do love a good stat. Of the 654,000 interactions on our live platform last week, 40,800 were over our API. If your supplier doesn't offer open APIs included in the base product, and you're thinking "meh maybe we don't need em" then you are stuck in legacy la la land. API's bring the efficiency and interaction products need in a modern adaptive platform. That 1992 CSV FTP Ping Pong you are pretending works fine will bite you on the behind one day. If you work in the technology channel space this is the stark reality of what you are up against..... Globally the number of software vendors is growing exponentially: ·      In 2011 there were 10,000 ·      By 2022 there were 175,000 ·      By 2030 it is predicted there will be 1,000,000 ! So that’s a 100-fold increase in the space of 20 yrs. Yet over that same period, the number of technology resellers has pretty much stayed constant to now, and is predicted to continue to do so. Somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000. So if you’re a channel team within a software vendor, trying to attract and enable new partners to sell your wares, there are 100 times more competitors than there were 20 yrs ago. It’s no longer a case of “Build it and they will come” You need a compelling product, a proactive awareness and recruitment programme, effective on-boarding processes and 1st class sales and marketing enablement. Why was UnityTrip unaffected yesterday, when many in the Microsoft ecosystem fell over?   Was it luck?   We ignore lady luck at our peril, but it's more than luck.   Was it money?   More money means more redundancy, but it's not just money, otherwise govt and banking services would have been reliable.   Was it engineering?   Well yes that's a factor e.g., fault tolerance is nasty with legacy services like SQL Server.   Was it the size, maturity, management, or company culture?   That plays a role e.g., for one vendor, the outage was an identical repeat event, eight years later, with identical regrettable outcomes.   I posit however what matters most is people with influence who have the phenotype and life experience to want to make a difference.   Hence the picture; coastal sailing baked into me the importance of risk management. Shameless pitch, if you run leased schedules and have misgivings about your present corporate travel services, UnityTrip is open for business.

I've been handed a survey report from one of my large enterprise clients. Apparently the previous copywriter c*cked it up. The 20+ page report had run into some problems: - Constant back and forth - Feedback not being listened to - Continued re-skinning what the client wanted removed Not necessarily their fault: It’s a real challenge moving away from your initial approach when writing long form. Making a splash with microservices (and integration). One of my current internal projects at Door4 is a blend of operational and R&D. Building internal microservices, in particular those which harness GenAI is a hot topic... so I have written a short article. We're using this technology to improve communication, routinely surface key content into our Slack workspace, and use GenAI to summarise complex data/conversations for us. It is a complex beast, though, and is often implemented really badly, with issues like: - teams saying Jira doesn't work for them - fixed workflows nobody likes - people using Jira comments instead of speaking to each other - management having no clue what is going on - the promised transparency simply doesn't exist - the "simple" tooling has grown into an uncontrollable monster - reliance on one or two admins who simply do not have the capacity or skills - not sure how to set Jira up to support a growing organisation So, if you have Jira, or are thinking about getting Jira, and want to make sure you get the best out of it long-term and avoid issues like these, drop us a line... WordPress has taken a significant step by updating its Code of Conduct to include private conversations... ...sparking a mixed response across the community. This change aims to create a safer, more respectful environment for contributors, recognising that how we interact behind the scenes is just as vital as public-facing discussions. The code of conduct is based on the 'Contributor Covenant', version 2.1 and now includes six examples of unacceptable behaviour. - The use of sexualised language or imagery and sexual attention or advances of any kind. - Insulting or derogatory comments, taunting or baiting, and personal or political attacks. - Public or private harassment. - Publishing others’ private information, such as a physical or email address, without their explicit permission. - Publishing private messages without consent. - Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting. Some community members worry about potential overreach and the complexities of monitoring private interactions. On the other hand, many see this as a progressive step toward a healthier, more inclusive community where everyone can contribute without fear of hostility. Why this matters: As one of the world’s most-used open-source platforms, WordPress relies on collaboration and mutual respect within its community. This update highlights an important cultural shift, urging all contributors to uphold the values that have made WordPress a leader in the open-source world. If you can't send an email, what does that say about your business? Email deliverability issues aren't just annoying they reflect badly on your business. What's more - there can be more sinister underlying causes. Bottom line: If your deliverability is low, you'll be getting caught in spam filters. ❌   It's vital to have the correct protocols in place. Setting up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records for your email campaigns demonstrates to email providers that you’re secure. This step is crucial in building trust and ensuring your emails make it through filters. It also means people aren't able to send 'Spoof' emails from your domain on your behalf. You don't want this. Spam emailing, malicious emailing, threats, fraud - who knows what could be going on if you don't have the correct email security in place. 📧 Are you worried about your emails deliverability?
