🚗 Hybrids taking fleet car demand from EVs, Cap HPI reports 🚗 The fleet car market share taken by EVs fell by 10% during the first half of 2024, with most of this demand switching to plug-in hybrids, according to cap hpi. The automotive data firm said its Insight report showed that the share of the fleet market taken by EVs between January and June was 41%, down from 51.8% during the same period in 2023. In contrast, the market share taken by plug-in hybrids rose from 14.5% to 23%. Hard to believe, but true. For some years now, carmakers have been clearly showing their intention to electrify their ranges, and even to offer only 100% electric vehicles by 2030. Notably Mercedes-Benz, who had launched their major EQ project, aimed at hybridizing or electrifying their range. We've seen the discontinuation of certain models and engines, especially from Mercedes' Sport/Performance division: AMG. The legendary 4.8-liter V8 Biturbo was retired last year, notably on the C class and E class ranges, to become a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder coupled with an electric motor and a 6.1kWh battery pack. Hybrid motorization, then, being far more powerful on paper (2023 version: 510hp / 2024 version: 671). However, it seems that sales have been catastrophic for the German company. So much so, in fact, that the company has decided to put the EQ project on hold, or at least put the brakes on development of the top-of-the-range models. A new model, the CLE 63 AMG, is due to be announced shortly. Initially planned to use the same engine structure as the C and E class AMG, it would appear that the manufacturer decided to change its plans at the last minute. Indeed, the legendary 4.8-liter V8 Biturbo is set to make a comeback, much to the delight of fans. Mercedes has yet to issue an official statement, so it's best not to get overexcited, but I'd advise keeping your eyes open. It will be interesting to see what impact this change might have on sales, both in Europe and the USA, but also in Asia. Thank you for taking the time to read me.

New Car Registrations I am still hearing that no none is buying EV's, the numbers seem to tell a different story. According to the SMMT September saw yet another increase sales of EV's including BEV, PHEV and HEV's taking 43% of the market share. BEV's taking over 20%. Both Petrol and Diesel sales were down by 9.3 and 7.1% respectively.

22% Read this, its important That's a VERY important number for the manufacturers and dealer groups in Europe and the UK The loons in Europe and in Number 10 are controlling the registration of new vehicles, starting THIS year They must have AT LEAST 22% of what's registered as full electric vehicles Hybrids, Plugins etc DO NOT COUNT And the fines? £15,000 PER car that is registered that isn't a full electric Ford, among others have got a bit feisty about this ( rightly so ) and declared that they will not be paying any fines, will just stop selling/registering anything that's going to mean they have to pay. SO for every 1,000 cars registered, 220 MUST be electric or the fines cut in What does that mean for you? Well, I can see non-electric prices climbing I can see people who have left ordering late then finding out the manufacturer won't let them have a car til January That's the bad news The good news is that there's 3 days left to sort and order your PRICE PROTECTED car for delivery later this year. ( The earlier you are in the queue, the less chance they will cancel it because the ratios are going to mean fines) More good news is I can see manufacturers keeping the stormingly good EV deals on the go. They've been great this year and I don't see the annual price rises making much of an impact as they will keep throwing the kitchen sink at the deals OK, I'm not Mystic Meg but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to put together what's likely to happen I'm here to help you hunt out the sweet spot deals and mitigate against Number 10 lunacy JB PS ................ this is NOT a political post, but if you don't want to be conducting your life riding a pony and trap to work, there is only one political party that isn't having any of this bloody nonsense. The used car market continues to grow steadily, with significant gains in electric vehicle sales and supermini popularity, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). ♻️ The market grew by 4.3% from July to September, with nearly 2 million vehicles sold. ♻️Used battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales hit a record 53,423, up 57.0%, reaching 2.7% of the market. ♻️Superminis led sales, rising by 5.0% to represent 32.4% of all transactions. Battery electric vehicle uptake in April rose 10.7%, pushing up market share to 16.9%, a rise from last April’s 15.4%, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This was sustained almost entirely by business buyers ( 👏 ) as fewer than one in six new BEVs bought in April went to consumers. The SMMT puts this down to the lack of government incentives for private motorists, and says that this cannot be overcome by industry alone. One way to stimulate demand is to temporarily halve VAT on new BEV purchases, the SMMT says. What do you think could incentivise private motorists to purchase an #electricvehicle? SMMT stats show increase in EVs entering used car market Increasing numbers of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are now entering the used car market, with Q1 sales up by more than two thirds (71.0%) to 41,505 – posting a new record market share of 2.1%. Overall, the UK’s used car market rose by 6.5% in the first quarter of 2024 with 1,967,923 units finding new owners – the strongest start to a year since pre-pandemic 2019, according to the latest figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The increase marks 16 months of successive growth, reflecting recovering supply in the new car market which is in turn improving availability and choice of second-hand motors. Used car transactions have risen in every month of the year to date1 but, despite this robust growth, the quarter’s transactions remain -2.6% below pre-Covid levels. BEVs are the fastest growing powertrain as more buyers are attracted to the potential cost-saving and environmental benefits. Hybrids (HEVs) also continued to sell in greater volumes, with 74,502 changing hands in a 49.3% rise. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), too, grew in popularity, with sales up 42.5% to 22,065. New data from The AA reveals the percentage of #EV breakdowns caused by running out of power reached a record low last month💡 Just 1.4% of the EV callouts they received in June were due to batteries having limited or no charge. Rosario Surace, EV Charging Specialist at Drax Electric Vehicles ⚡, comments:    "This is a fantastic step towards instilling the confidence needed for people and businesses to switch to electric, as well as debunking one of the biggest myths about EVs: EVs can't go the distance.    As we can see from this new figure, EV breakdowns due to limited or no charge on the batteries is becoming fewer and far between. And this is because, like with any new advancement, the technology is getting better and better.   I've—along with my co-driver Naomi Jane Nye, Head of Sales at Drax Electric Vehicles ⚡—have recently taken part in the EV Rally 2024, where we witnessed first hand the real capabilities of these cars and vehicles. And having travelled 1400+miles over 5 days, it's safe to say, EVs have what it takes to go the distance.   I'm looking forward to seeing this percentage decrease as we progress over the next couple of years." Nissan has recommitted to selling only zero-emission electric cars by 2030 in Britain and Europe despite a volatile sales market in which the growth in registrations of battery vehicles has caused leading rivals to rein back on their pledges. The Japanese company said it is also on track for a £3 billion redevelopment of its plant in Sunderland, to construct a third battery-producing gigafactory on the site, and by 2030 to be assembling the next generation of its pioneering Nissan Leaf all-electric car and zero-emission versions of its Qashqai and Juke models

The May figures are out and despite what newspaper headlines are telling us, electric vehicle sales ⚡ are still going strong according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) latest report. "ICE vehicles continues to fall as demand for electrified vehicles rose, with plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) ... up 31.5% to reach an 8.0% market share with hybrids (HEVs) rising 9.6% – the third most popular fuel type after petrol and battery electric at 13.2% of the market. Battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations also outperformed the market, rising 6.2% to claim a 17.6% market share. Who's buying? 🚚 New LCV market growth continues, but EVs see steep fall 🚚 The UK new LCV market grew by 5.4% year-on-year in April, with 23,889 registrations. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said this represented the 16th consecutive month of growth, as well as the strongest April for three years. There was worse news for the electric LCV market, with EV registrations down by 42.4%. SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said: “Manufacturers are investing billions to bring electric vehicles to market, however, uptake is slowing and urgent action is needed." The Ford Transit was the top-selling LCV in April, ahead of the Ford Transit Custom and Vauxhall Vivaro. The DfT recently provided much-needed clarity that the “ICE ban” in 2030 will not extend to hybrid vehicles, but shouldn’t some types of hybrids be actively encouraged? There is a case for plug in hybrids, when fuelled entirely with sustainable renewable fuel, to have a long-term future in a net zero world. On a life cycle carbon emissions basis their emissions would be superior to that of battery electric cars, as shown in the Zemo report “Vehicle life cycle GHG emissions study to show the role of renewable fuels in meeting net zero”. They are particularly appropriate for smaller-sized cars, whose range is typically less than 50 miles, enabling a smaller battery. The use of the on-board ICE generator would only be required on the occasional longer journey. This type of hybrid (a range extended electric vehicle - REEV) does not have to carry around the weight of an over-sized battery and parallel drive train. Although OEMs have been discouraged from further innovation in renewably-fuelled REEVs, the recent slowdown in demand for BEVs should prompt a rethink. As the UK strives to achieve net zero, renewably-powered transport has a key role to play. The government should be working to incentivise the use of higher biofuel blends in order to achieve fast reductions in GHGs as the shift towards electrification continues. https://lnkd.in/eWJcfDZc.

BEVs have best September registrations on record The UK new car market rose in the key plate change month of September with battery-electric vehicles (BEV) up almost a quarter year-on-year, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Overall the market performance was the best since 2020 with 275,239 units. Demand for the latest BEV hit a new record volume for any month in September, up 24.4% to 56,387 units, achieving a 20.5% share of the overall market, which is significantly up from 16.6% a year ago. It is now expected to hit around 18.5% of the whole market by the end of the year.
