Great ‘computer use’ functionality. As this develops further , it will no doubt drive investment in data quality, data governance and integration. Also will need greater controls from a data privacy perspective. But can be highly productive, especially with AI ‘component’ costs expected to reduce further. ‘Available today on the API, developers can direct Claude to use computers the way people do—by looking at a screen, moving a cursor, clicking buttons, and typing text. Claude 3.5 Sonnet is the first frontier AI model to offer computer use in public beta. At this stage, it is still experimental—at times cumbersome and error-prone. We're releasing computer use early for feedback from developers, and expect the capability to improve rapidly over time.’ #anthropic #Claude

We were delighted to sponsor the CGI Branch event on AI and Corporate Governance this week!  Great engagement from the audience and the panel gave plenty of food for thought – huge thanks to Alan Hewitt Claire Bodanis Diana Rose   Some immediate takeaways from the session:   ● Trust.  As AI and other emerging technologies continue to evolve and develop, it will be vital to generate trust in the technology. Trust comes in part from a sense of familiarity and a sense that the technology actually helps, so it’s important that boards and company secretaries have the chance to engage with AI and understand the opportunities it brings as well as its limitations.   ● Curiosity. There is a real risk that boards, businesses, and professions that fail to grapple with the possible extent and pace of change from AI will end up being left behind. At a company level, encouraging and facilitating conversations on AI will facilitate further understanding of the agenda and greater alignment across the business on where the particular challenges (and opportunities!) may lie.   ● Getting AI on the agenda. There is still a sense that AI is not a regular board agenda item. According to a November 2023 research report from Deloitte, Measuring Value from Digital Transformation, the UK is in something of a parlous state in this area. The top four problem areas cited were: 👉 Legacy systems dependency 👉 Difficulty securing necessary funding for digital technology investments 👉 Insufficient data to inform strategy 👉 Inadequate cross-departmental communication or silos Which I would summarise as ‘the organisation hasn’t come together to establish the value of a transformation, left it to IT and IT is struggling against the odds dealing with technology that is just getting older.’ So how do we address this? We can only start by understanding the objectives of an organisation and using this to establish the value of a transformation programme. The top three issues all derive from the fact that ‘digital transformations’ seem entirely focussed on changing the tech and the business is simply not interested in funding this if they see no benefit. At Beyond M&A we use our Investor Grade Due Diligence approach to explore why a transformation will benefit a business and what overall value it will yield. There is little purpose in any other starting point.
