Not all specification is created equal in the eyes of a used car buyer. A piece of equipment can be as clever or as pricey as you like, but it's incredibly difficult to put a monetary value on something you can’t see. Over-the-air updates are a biggie, especially because they aren’t there when a car is sold new. But they might well be when it’s sold second-hand. The prospect of them adding to a used car’s bottom line is slim, but they could encourage first owners to hang onto them for longer with a latter-day freshen up. Theoretically, that could come in handy if you have to wait a while for your next one – say, if manufacturers reduce supply because of the ZEV mandate. Stop Losing Customers and Millions! Automotive dealers risk millions and breach their duty of care by losing track of customers, warns ADS. Sounds like a promising opportunity, doesn't it? Challenge: Maximise returns from your existing client base. Solution: Just like a fuel tank, ensure your database is clean and full. (If it’s not in the database, it’s not in the business!) Enhance this with user-friendly AI to streamline customer interactions. Result: Start measuring your R.O.R. (Return on Relationship). This can be assessed as a yield, amount, or percentage. I'm pleased to say that according to Garage Industry Trends last week the future demand increased for the independent automotive industry and is expected to continue to increase for the next 6 weeks or so. April 2024 saw the highest average invoice value so far in all of the data collected, with an average of £305. So far in 2024 the average invoice values by fuel type are as follows. Diesel £339 Hybrid £247 Petrol £244 EV £234 So far in 2024 EV makes up 1.05% of invoices, and Hybrid makes up 2.26% of invoices. For vehicles registered since 2022, this increased to EV 7.75% and Hybrid 11.71% Labour rate continues to remain pretty level, increasing only by 70p since January 24, currently at £74.73 Have a great week 😊

Reading the latest #evfleetworld magazine got me thinking further on EVs PHEV and RVs seeing (1-2year old) EV sell for 50% off and more at auction, does this tax increase coming and new product availability (70mile EV on PHEV) Now reduce the traditional PHEV leaders values? Great to have Motorway supporting the Car Dealer Live podcast last night. There was some great debate on EVs and, in particular the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate (sets out the % of new zero emission vehicles manufacturers are required to produce each year up to 2030). I agreed with the view that if the industry is going to hit the ZEV mandate goals, much more needs to be done to support consumer demand for EVs, including investment in charging infrastructure and reducing VAT on out of home charging (from 20% to the 5% charged for domestic electricity). https://lnkd.in/esZwwKjP

If the UK is serious about growth, the automotive sector can be the driving force so this week’s 16th SMMT International Automotive Summit sent that message loud and clear. SMMT’s Vision 2035 plan, launched at the event, sets out the contribution the UK auto industry can make to the UK economy. With the right policies in place, our sector has the potential to deliver growth worth £50 billion over the next decade, at the same time replacing more than 17 million fossil fuel cars with zero emission ones and making more than a million of them here in Britain every year. UK car market dynamics 🚗 With September taking shape it will be interesting to see the 3 month trend develop.📊 The June to August period showed a declining retail market offset by fleet and motability growth. 📉 BEV sales in both retail and fleet are in decline. 📉 The market looks to be softening. Retail is down year on year and the BEV market despite intense stimulation is not responding as we would all hope. ‼️ Whilst the headlines have celebrated that the BEV share is growing this is due to a declining market (actual EV volume is static)🚨 As always there will be winners and losers. 👍👎 The losers will blame the external factors for their lack of success whilst the winners will adjust and find a way to succeed. #interventionrequired #ifitstobeitsuptome

Just back from The Commercial Vehicle Show, and what a day it was! The industry has come a long way, and it was great to hear from OEMs that LCV supply is back to normal and there are vans on the ground. Let's leave the past behind us and start to really progress with the transition to EVs. The key takeaway from the event was the importance of getting "bums in seats" (pardon the industry slang). Fleet decision-makers and drivers need to experience the benefits of EVs firsthand to really drive the transition forward. Not only do EVs reduce driver stress, but they also make motoring more simple. Of course, there are still some hurdles to overcome, particularly when it comes to charging infrastructure. But as an industry, we need to unite and find solutions. Shared charging, with planning, can help fleets meet their energy requirements. It was a good day representing Gofor with have loads to share with the team. Let's keep pushing forward towards a more sustainable future for the commercial vehicle industry. #EV #LCV #decarbonisation
