Allyship- the small things you can do that make a difference. Small changes like capitalising the first letter of each word in hashtags can make a world of difference for those using screen readers. Too many social media posts are currently not accessible. Last week, I spoke to a few people I follow and they were unaware. So here is an example: Instead of #deafawareness, let's use #DeafAwareness.  It's a simple tweak that enhances accessibility and ensures everyone can engage with our content effectively.   Let's keep striving for inclusivity. The Journey to Self-Discovery: Facilitating Client Insights One Revelation at a Time An insight can be called as any realisation a client gets when they feel safe in a therapy session and discharge enough about a particular hurt. 🎉 Who do you think should ideally drive an insight? 🤔 How do you think an insight gets stimulated in a session? ✨ Let's unpack this today! 🤝 The counselor and client might start realising the client’s thought and action pattern that are present in almost all their problems. ✨ After the client adequately discharges about those patterns/situations by one or more of these means (animated talking, crying, laughing, shaking/trembling, warm sweat, cold sweat, stretching, scratching, yawning, burping), they may start arriving at their own realisations about their life situations. 🥳 However, if the client is taking a longer time to reach that insight, the counselor can really jump the gun here and feedback the insight to the client themselves. ❌ Please do not do that! ❗ Let's look at what happenes to a client when a counselor does that ⚠️ They might accept the insight you offered them intellectually because they respect whatever you say as a counselor. But the Eureka moment is missing. This kind of insight is called intellectual insight.🧠 Now, contrasting to this, if the counselor allows the client to proceed at his/her own pace, the client can emotionally process the feelings and emotions behind each isolated incident and actually realize, “what a minute, these 5 things seem to be connected. Why didn't I see this before?”. This is called an emotional insight, where the ABC (affect, behavior and cognition) of those 5 isolated events become linked for the client.🎆🎇 The moment of stark truth and realization that will hit them about their own selves would be reward enough for the counselor to continue to let the client drive the insight along and don't be surprised, if the following week, the client shows up with 5 more mini insights! 💟📈 #therapy #counselors #counselling #clientinsights

Why do people lie?! 🤯 I hear so many horror stories from clients who have been stung *badly* in the past. Who have been sold things that is 💩 covered in 🦄 (there is no glitter emoji!) 😢 And it makes me so sad that it leaves some people doubting their ability to make good decisions - let alone putting some into serious financial trouble People who are: 🤯 Selling "Certified" courses and they’re not certified 🤯 People claiming to be "master qualified" coaches who aren't 🤯 Selling courses branded as masterminds, that have 0 personalisation ⛔️ It MUST stop. It’s the smoke and mirrors sh💩t that pisses me off online. Don't get me wrong... There is SO much good out there and I wouldn't be where I am now without the online space of LinkedIn and social media. And there are great courses and great coaches out there that aren’t accredited and that get people amazing results.   The problem that gets my goat and my strong need for justice, fairness and transparency - is saying something is something, when it’s not true... ❌ "Just because it will sell more" ❌ 🤷‍♀️ 'Cause that’s lying...! I seriously don’t know how these people sleep at night : when they’re basically selling snake oil 🐍 Whoever is teaching and condoning this, it needs to stop ❌ Now. Sands Awareness Week is 17-23 June 2024, and the theme is “Finding the Words”. Raising awareness and having conversations around Stillbirth is so so important. Whether it’s… 🧡Posting on social media platforms 🧡Writing articles 🧡Supporting people you care about 🧡Sending messages 🧡Signposting to support 🧡Taking part in charity events  🧡Policies and processes in your workplace It’s important we keep doing it, so many people are affected by stillbirths, yet it’s still a taboo subject. Sands - baby loss charity “Finding the Words” poll, the results of which were released today, found 69% of people in the UK who know someone who has been affected by pregnancy or baby loss want advice on how to sensitively start a conversation about it with them. Finding the right words can be hard, but those moments of discomfort as the “passerby” will be far less painful than the people going through this immeasurable pain. Find the words, keep talking about it (and take actions) to remember the babies who were (still) born into our world. My son Harrison was stillborn in 2011, and no matter how much time has passed by, I still remember some of the beautiful and awful words spoken during my journey.
