NESO's advice to the UK government on delivering Clean Power 2030 is a landmark moment for the UK’s energy transition and a step change in action. Labour’s manifesto also set out a commitment to delivering 8 GW of local and community-owned energy via the Local Power Plan. We believe it is critical that the UK government recognises the enormous value of local and community-owned energy, and makes this a key part of the CP2030 mission. That’s why we have joined a coalition of leading organisations to urge the Secretary of State to ensure that local and community energy is designated as ‘needed’ in the Clean Power 2030 Plan and any subsequent grid connections reform. By doing so, we can accelerate the net zero transition in a way that benefits for people and communities, building broader support for the shared Clean Power mission in the process. ESNZ Committee looking forward to exploring ideas with GB Energy about its role in the race for clean energy.   On Wednesday 20 November the newly reappointed Energy Security and Net Zero Committee will hold its first public evidence session in Parliament, looking at the role that Great British Energy (GBE) is expected to play in the energy market.     The flagship publicly-owned energy company, “designed to drive clean energy deployment, boost energy independence, create jobs” was announced with an initial £8 billion budget to 2029 as part of major new Government commitments on achieving clean energy.     But with only £100 million earmarked for investment in renewables in the next two years, questions have already been raised about the impact it can have on the Government’s 2030 clean energy target.   The Committee will question the new Chair of GBE Professor Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng. Director at GBE Tim Cullen recently admitted that it is not yet clear how the remit of GBE to invest in clean power projects and infrastructure will sit alongside a newly created National Wealth Fund. One of the questions from the select committee on Wednesday will be whether it is being setup in an appropriate way to achieve its ambitions without distorting existing investment.   Will it learn the lessons from previous UK and current EU state-owned companies and be able to drive private investment? Will it have an impact on the core aim of lowering consumer energy bills?     The Committee will also question the Chair at Great British Nuclear (GBN), another publicly owned company, established only about a year ago with the remit to “drive the delivery of new nuclear energy projects in the UK” and contribute to meeting the UK’s legally binding 2050 target for a net zero economy.

National Grid has published its Principles for a fair transition. Last year National Grid commissioned us to facilitate a series of stakeholder roundtables with representation from industry, unions, charities, regulators, and government, as well as members of the public, particularly underrepresented groups, to hear what this overhaul of the energy system might look like. National Grid will apply the principles in practice by Engaging with communities Sharing knowledge with others Supporting an affordable energy transition Accelerating social mobility in the communities they serve Reflecting the communities they serve They will also Aim for 35% female representation and 20% ethnicity in our management population by 2025, Aim for 50% female representation and 40% ethnicity in our new talent population by 2025, Aim for 50% diversity of our Group Executive by 2025 including but not limited to a focus on gender and ethnicity. No wonder our government wants to exempt itself from mis/disinformation in the bill they are pushing so hard to enforce on the rest of us! This is the height of hypocrisy—censoring dissent while spreading their own agenda unchecked. This isn’t just incompetence—it’s a coordinated campaign of misinformation. Australians are being sold a dream of cheap, sustainable energy while the government destroys natural habitats, drives up electricity costs, and leaves taxpayers footing the bill for an unachievable fantasy. This reckless pursuit of wind and solar at any cost will devastate the environment, cripple the economy, and fail to deliver on its promises. The evidence is clear: wind and solar alone are a dead-end solution, and the lies underpinning this agenda are a betrayal of every Australian who values truth, accountability, and the future of our nation. It’s time to demand honesty and competence before more irreversible damage is done.

🔎 ⚡Client Spotlight: Improved Energy 🔎 ⚡ How Improved Energy Helps Address the UK’s Wind Constraint Problem 💡 The UK’s massive investments in #windenergy are often hindered by grid constraints. Especially during windy periods, excess wind power generation risks overwhelming the grid, and the UK government has to pay grid operators millions in constraint payments to periodically turn off wind turbines (read more about this in Kantar advisory partners (KAP) sustainability insight here https://lnkd.in/eZvk4gKz). 🌬 Improved Energy offers a solution: a patented thermal storage technology that absorbs excess wind energy and feeds it back into the grid during calmer periods. By storing and slowly releasing power, their system prevents network overloads and minimises renewable energy intermittencies, thereby negating the need for constraint payments. This means the British government can save millions and improve #gridreliability without needing major, costly upgrades. 💰 In the future, Improved Energy aims to implement regional storage solutions, creating so-called energy reservoirs, similar to how water utilities manage supply. This offers a more efficient--and much more affordable--way to manage power on a regional level, thus improving national renewable energy flows and further delaying costly network expansions. ✅ The challenge? Despite its value, some UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) hesitate to invest because #constraintpayments cover their losses when their turbines are off, creating little incentive for grid innovation. [Open access] The UK's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has launched consultations on a proposed "Clean Industry Bonus (CIB)" to upcoming Contract for Difference (CfD) schemes. The CIB process will be run as a competitive allocation for extra revenue support before the main CfD Allocation Round 7 (AR7) auction. Under this scheme, fixed and floating offshore wind developers could get extra support if they choose to invest in more sustainable supply chains. The CIB makes extra CfD funding available if a developer chooses to make investments above the minimum standard that meet the sustainability criteria. Scotland's Just Transition Commission joins the call for better energy justice for Scotland's communities. "The Just Transition Commission's recent report highlights the importance of empowering local communities to make the most of the opportunities from the energy transition - this message is at the heart of the work we have been doing with the Scottish Community Coalition on Energy (SCCE). "A number of the key messages in the report directly overlap with the SCCE's own calls to action, including capacity building for communities, scaling up opportunities for 100% community owned energy projects, reserving space on the grid for community energy and maximising community benefits and shared ownership opportunities.
