Utilities and private developers are installing dirty gas plants in AZ faster than you can say "climate catastrophe." Methane gas is 80x more potent as a greenhouse gas over 20 years than CO2. Rather than invest in the "triple crown" of renewables + batteries + energy efficiency, Arizona Public Service - APS, Salt River Project and Tucson Electric Power are adding to poor air quality and wasting precious water. Fully electrified #rigs and other facilities operating across the Norwegian Continental Shelf are emitting 1.2 kg of #CO2 per boe produced, according to Rystad Energy. This is 86% lower than the 8.4 kg of CO2/boe emitted by the same assets prior to undergoing #electrification. Norway can deploy its resources of hydroelectric power in particular to help cut #emissions from its #upstream #oilandgas production. These graphics describe the large upfront expenditure involved in deploying offshore wind at grid scale at sea. When factored against end of life carbon intensity and materials recycling-recovery, this can mean that such offshore wind projects are entirely dependent on state subsidies to support the operating revenue of such players. There is a better way, by using other proven and tried tested offshore wind systems to reduce the cost of turbine asset positioning.
