🔆 An insightful FemTech article in The Guardian highlights the immense potential of the industry. With femtech targeting 50% of the global population and women's higher healthcare spending and digital health tool usage, it's no surprise experts predict it as the "next big phenomenon." Despite being valued at $28bn and projected to reach $60bn by 2027, femtech receives only 1-2% of health tech funding, and a mere 4% of new drugs for female-specific health issues were approved in the US from 2011 to 2021. We recently hosted a virtual roundtable with 14 senior executives on 18th July, exploring what it takes to deliver a successful transformation. Simon Henderson, Mohit Wadan, and Fritz Jaeger from Bain's Performance Improvement and Accelerated Transformation team led an insightful session, discussing six key features for success. They highlighted the importance of focusing on productivity, covering both growth and cost, to stay competitive in all seasons. On the back of supporting the production of the CIOB AI Playbook in June, I was delighted, as part of the CIOB Innovation Advisory Panel, to co-author this blog with David Philp (Advisory Panel Chair), summarising the practical steps to be taken to make your AI strategy tangible. Titled: Developing An Artificial Intelligence Strategy.   The key takeaways are; be clear on your objectives, precise use cases, and measures, create an ethical approach based on quality data, and start small, iterate, learn, and evolve. #AI has the potential to impact almost every part of our society, including GDP. To fulfill this promise however, will require work and change. Firstly, we need the infracture, secondly we need firms to embrace the cloud and AI technologies, and thirdly we need to fill the skills gap we have in this country. Is in shock 😱…no not really… NHS England to mandate the use of Palantir Technologies #FDP after a £360m+ investment this is no surprise! To truly leverage the benefits (🤞) and multiple use cases at scale this had to happen. The proof however is going to be in the rapid and successful rollout (and it’s a good thing mass IT NHS rollouts are always successful 😉). Moreover, the demonstration of benefits to drive #productivity will be key 🗝️. The ‘App store’ approach and development of ‘products’ is where the FDP, I predict, is going to be won and lost: App A vs App B etc etc. Mass mandated adoption: was always going to happen. OpenAI appears to have adopted the adage: it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Copyright issues have plagued the #AI pioneers since day one. Now, they’re providing content owners with the ability to include or exclude their work from the company’s development. While OpenAI’s tools’ progression may slow down, they have already been trained using others’ work. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out, but I can’t help wondering, is this effort just too little too late? #transformation
