Last week a bench made from rubbish, some of which was collected at ZERO, was donated to Kicks Count by Terracycle. It was then given to Cheryl in memory of her 12 year old daughter who passed away suddenly earlier this year. Cheryl has been collecting to recycle items from residents in Guildford for over 10 years and then spends many hours sorting it and sending it off to Terracycle who donate money to Kicks Count for it and turn it into things such as this bench. We're really pleased our rubbish has been made into such a fitting tribute to Cheryl's daughter. Thank you Terracycle and Kicks Count and to Cheryl for all her hard work recycling our rubbish! #Recycling #Terracycle #KicksCount #Guildford #Upcycled #CommunitySupport #SustainableLiving

It’s Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, and you might not know it, but despite Surrey being a wealthy county, parts of our hometown, Guildford, are above the national average for levels of fuel poverty! The goal of our Home Energy Advice Team is to address this issue by providing free home energy visits to Surrey residents. We supported over 700 homes this year, with a user-rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars! Our free thermal imaging survey will show you where you’re home is losing heat - and therefore money - and we can even provide free draught proofing measures, as well as 5 rolls of 200mm of loft insulation either free or heavily discounted, if you’re eligible. Sign up for a free home visit from out HEAT service today, and one of our Energy Champions will talk you through your options. 29 days left and counting.. Can you help us reach our goal? As a ZERO supporter you have been extremely generous in helping us move the charity forward - and we’re back with cap in hand a year after our previous crowdfunder, because we have some core costs that we could really use some support with - and at the moment we can potentially get Guildford Borough Council to matchfund us IF we achieve our goal 🤞 With our location on the High St, we’ve tried to keep doing all the things we do so well as a community, but it has meant some changes to how we operate. One of the new challenges we face is paying significantly more rent than at our previous premises - whilst also losing the zero waste shop. This means our core costs have gone up, whilst our income has dropped significantly. Now, you might have seen us advertising paid roles and be thinking, ‘why do they need more cash?’ And you’re right, we’ve had some great fundraising successes in the last couple of years…but the funding is largely from grants and contracts, and as such it’s project-specific and can only be used for the projects in the application or tender. This means it can’t always be used freely to handle surprises, cover unexpected costs or some core functions - and this includes running the hub itself which is not covered by any existing grants. Your donations to the crowdfunder will cover: 🪛New items and repairs for the Guildford Library of Things 💧New E.coli testing kits for the Community Water Lab 🎙️Event costs to help us keep running great events 💡Rent & some core costs - 3 month contribution 💻IT and software to cope with growing demands Please donate 👉https://ow.ly/KpMe50U60XO So please donate today to keep your favourite local projects going, and ensure ZERO continues to set the benchmark for community-led climate spaces with town centre visibility! Whatever you can spare will be a huge help as we look to generate a quick £5k in just 4 weeks, so please contribute today if you can, as campaigns which build early momentum are typically most successful! You can also support us by sharing this post 😊 Institute for Sustainability @lucy-siegle-a8774b8 @davidgarrido1980 #Guildford #Surrey #LibraryOfThings #WaterRangers #Fundraising #Crowdfunder
