🇦🇺 How Australian Brands Are Impacting Design Trends for UK Tiny Home Builders 🇬🇧 🏡 TWT Tiny Homes, a boutique cabin design and manufacturing firm based in Caerphilly, Wales is leading the way in the UK with a groundbreaking design innovation, thanks to their adoption of an Australian product in their handcrafted cabins. Lucy Robertson, owner of TWT Tiny Homes, has become the first in the UK to integrate this product to tackle a common challenge for her customers. The off-grid toilet. With the surge in popularity of off-grid, nature-focused retreats and cabins, the issue of plumbing has become a persistent headache for eco-builders and nature enthusiasts. Until now, the available solutions have struggled to keep pace with the luxury off-grid market. Too often, we hear complaints about the lack of innovation in the composting toilet market, with horror stories of basic bucket-and-sawdust setups sitting beneath rough-hewn planks at music festivals. The Australian brand "NatureLoo" has been spreading rapidly across the continent, driven by the growing demand for off-grid tiny homes and eco-cabins. With its unique new product 'The Alectura' hitting UK shores for the firt time last month, its innovative design has captured the imagination of off-grid enthusiasts and designers all over the UK. As a consequence, TWT Tiny Homes, in partnership with WooWoo Waterless Toilets—the UK's leading authority on waterless toilet technology—has introduced a compost toilet that is sure to win over even the most sceptical critics of off-grid facilities. The 'Alectura' by NatureLoo is the latest innovation in the global off-grid arena and is set to revolutionise the cabin and staycation market. Featuring a porcelain pedestal, this batch composting system is super-efficient and easy to integrate beneath the chassis of a mobile home or similar structure. With only a 50cm clearance required, the containers are perfectly designed to produce nutrient-dense compost. It's a hands-off solution, providing landowners and lodge builders with a high-performance system that their guests will appreciate. "We've always loved designing and building bespoke cabins," said Lucy Robertson of TWT Tiny Homes. "But the off-grid experience can come with its challenges," she laughed. "This new Australian design has made it so much more practical for us as tiny home builders and for the end user. We’re thrilled to be the first in the UK to benefit from this innovative loo, and it looks fantastic in our new builds." #offgrid #tinyhomes #interiordesign #designtrends #designuk #cabindesign #offgridtoilets #ruralfacilities #glamping #leisure #ruralretreat

It's Podcast time! In this episode, I'm in conversation with my colleague Gemma Roe to learn about her background and what she's learned about waterless toilets since joining WooWoo, and role they can play in sustainability and creating a better world for everyone and everything. I hope you enjoy it! https://lnkd.in/ebz-RwME

It's "World Toilet Day" today. Did you know? 😅 Naturally, it's not really much to get excited about. Unless, that is, you're working in the alternative, innovative segment of industry! Which we are. World Toilet Day is an official United Nations international observance day on 19 November to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis. As a disruptive force, we believe that there is always a better way. The humble toilet is becoming somewhat of a talking point in environmental circles, particularly as our 'flush' directly impacts the UK Sewage Crisis. But, we don't need to tell you this! Rev. Moule was preaching it 165 years ago! And, we will continue on. Happy World Toilet Day, composters! #Sustainability #sustainablebusiness #worldtoiletday #disruption #compost #composting #ukbusiness #environment

Yesterday, an estimated 15,000 people joined a range of environmental groups on the March for Clean Water to demand tougher action on protecting UK waterways. One of the attendees was Chris Packham, who has criticised the Government for not mentioning climate or nature in its Budget during the march against water pollution in central London. (Source: https://lnkd.in/e6FV3EG8)" But will the government listen? And what's the primary driver of this pollution? Peter Hammond (Windrush Against Sewage Pollution) dismantles the narrative that Victorian-era infrastructure is to blame for the environmental degradation in his 2023 article entitled "Should the Victorians be blamed for the river sewage pollution scandal or is it lack of investment and weak regulation in the 21st Century?". (Report here: https://lnkd.in/e3QKnUxu) Revealing that the majority of the UK network was built in the decades leading up to privatisation, with a significant portion constructed during the 1960s and 1970s. Professor Hammond’s analysis of a report by Arup/Vivid economics dismantles the narrative that Victorian-era infrastructure is to blame for the environmental degradation we're witnessing. The failure to maintain and modernise our wastewater infrastructure is the *real issue*. This revelation is pivotal in changing the discourse around water pollution and underscores the urgency for robust investments and upgrades. "This begs the question: Why has the government been peddling the same narrative as the water industry?" (https://lnkd.in/eaCsMkv6) What’s even more shocking about this report is the revelation that there has been significantly less investment in the infrastructure post-privatisation compared to pre-privatisation. Recent findings also highlight that an alarming 80% of sewage spills nationally are due to the lack of capacity in wastewater treatment plants, not just erratic weather or climate change, as often claimed. https://lnkd.in/eP4ay-RV As urgent as this is, and as passionate as the campaigns and protests may be, it makes one also think about our personal responsibility. If we as citizens are overburdening an already failing system, at what point do we simply stop using water? At WooWoo, we are consistently engaging with individuals, architects and ecologically motivated designers and builders about the devastating environmental impact of sewage. Juxtaposed against the positive, life-enhancing benefits of compost for soil health, carbon capture and ecology. The very best way to protest, in our opinion, is to act. Let's ditch the flush. Vote with our feet. Please do reach out if you are considering installing or replacing a toilet in your home, garden or workplace. We simply can't keep flushing our waste. It's time. #climate #climatechange #climateaction #environment #greenliving #uk #sustainability #labourcouncillor #sustainabilityuk #labourparty #sewage #London

With Autumn in full swing, keep this in mind: Fallen leaves are not your enemy. They are essential for keeping our soils healthy. They feed and protect our soil. As they decompose, nutrients return. Moisture stays, and erosion slows down. Insects and microbes find shelter. Healthy soil builds, year by year. So leave the leaves this fall if you can. Nature knows what's best. #nature #future #sustainability

Even on an overcast day, the WooWoo Kazuba stands majestically on this high-class golf course called "Golfklúbbur Borgarness" in Iceland. Kazuba toilets are often initially sought out because of the very immediate cost-saving benefit with regards to providing much needed facilities on remote outdoor sites. Once installed, the earlier motivations are soon eclipsed by the iconic design and environmental statement each unit brings, galvanising the vision and ingenuity of forward thinking business owners and landowners. There's more to composting than mere sentiment alone. Commercial viability, intelligent design and superb functionality has ensured that the compost toilet is gaining attention as one of the hottest topics in sustainability. Bjarki Pétursson, CEO tells us that, “The toilets have worked very well. Club members and visitors are happy with the outcome and give it good feedback when asked. They are easy to keep clean, and there is no smell at all which is hugely important for us as a high-class golf course. Another positive about them is that they fall well into the landscape and look nice” #iceland #golfcourse #golf #feedback #conservation #ukconservation #naturalhistory #landmark #ruralsite #historic #church #golfuk #outdoorspace #waterlesstoilet #ruralfacilities #ukfacilities

Only the most important topics to discuss! 🤣🚽 In all seriousness, we love working with WooWoo Waterless Toilets and the great team headed up by Jacob Andersen and championed by Gemma Roe. The benefits of a waterless toilet are immense and just like the polar bears or rare breeds the waterless toilets are another opportunity to get a conversation going with our guests to educate and inspire them to take care of the natural world. Our waterless toilets are now part of the magic at Broughton Sanctuary, recently recognised by National Geographic as one of the top 30 destinations in the world! This week, the WooWoo Waterless Toilets team had the privilege of visiting this forward-thinking estate, which has installed 8 of our waterless toilets across their breathtaking 2,500 acres. Our team stayed there for a couple of days and had an incredible experience exploring the estate’s inspiring rewilding efforts, meeting some of the amazing people who work there, and… of course… seeing the toilets! The toilets are scattered across the estate and each one of our WooWoo Loo cabins is being decorated and painted by a different local artist, blending in with the nature perfectly. Prof Alastair Driver, Director of Rewilding Britain, treated us to an insightful private tour of the estate, highlighting the remarkable work being done to restore biodiversity and rejuvenate the natural landscape - including planting a quarter of a million trees. It was an unforgettable experience to be led through the Yorkshire Dales by one of the UK’s leading conservationists. We were also warmly welcomed by Lord Roger Tempest, the owner of Broughton Sanctuary & Avalon Wellbeing, who joined us for toilet cake (the good, sugary kind - see pictures) and took the time to discuss our waterless toilets’ positive impact on the estate. It’s a real honor for WooWoo to be a small part of Broughton Sanctuary’s inspiring rewilding project. For anybody considering visiting the place, we can highly recommend it!
