We are excited to share the launch of laser etching on mangoes, introduced to customers of Westfalia Fruit in Europe. This is a joint project from our colleagues based in the Netherlands and Germany. The laser etching eliminates the need for individual plastic PLU stickers. Mathijs Benard, Head of Operations Central Europe, who joined the Netherlands-based team in March this year, says: “Since joining Westfalia Fruit, my focus has been on improving collaboration and efficiency. The introduction of laser etching, which is almost like a tattoo on the mango, has been an exciting project. Not only does it make the fruit stand out in-store, but it also has the potential to save up to 10 million plastic stickers a year. The first edition of the Global Avocado Summit 2024 was successfully held in Chile, bringing together key industry players to discuss market analysis, consumer trends, marketing, and sustainability. As a leading global avocado company, we played a prominent role in this event. The summit started with an opening address by Carmen Gloria Lüttges Dittborn, our Commercial Manager for Avocados in South America at Westfalia Fruit and president of the Chilean Avocado Committee. She set the stage for a series of dynamic discussions and presentations showcasing the avocado industry's dynamic nature. One of the standout sessions was the sustainability panel. Zac Bard, Business Development Executive at Westfalia Fruit and Chairman of the World Avocado Organisation (WAO), highlighted the importance of sustainable growth in the avocado sector. He stressed the need for collaborative efforts to ensure that this superfood continues to be produced in an environmentally friendly manner.
