Our Year 12 and 13 engineering students had the privilege of hosting Emile de Mello and Arthur, Graduate Engineers from CBRE Data Center Solutions, for an insightful session on Energy Audits. This marks CBRE's second visit as part of their support for BTEC Level 3 Engineering Unit 58 - Energy Management. Students gained first-hand knowledge about the purpose and impact of energy audits, discussing why companies commission them, the implications of recommendations, and whether these actions are mandatory. With their own audits scheduled in the new year, this real-world perspective will be invaluable to their learning journey. A huge thank you to CBRE for their ongoing support and for inspiring our students with practical insights! #STEMEducation #ThinkUTC #FutureEngineers #BTEC #EnergyManagement #EmployerEngagement Digital Futures Programme

The ribbon was cut yesterday on a new space for sixth formers with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in a bespoke building on the site of UTC Swindon. The Links Campus, run by Churchward School, teaches children and young people who need various levels of support. It is part of the Swindon-based Brunel Academies Trust. Churchward’s Sixth Form students now have a special place to study in a central city location, which will aid their development and transition from their rural secondary school to their next steps. Although the Links Campus is situated within UTC Swindon, they are two separate schools. Working with Brunel Academies Trust in this way fully supports our mission of Transforming Lives Through Learning and is a great example of us collaborating with other trusts for the benefit of the students. Working out where to cite CCTV and WiFi points was the mission given to Year 10s at a thought-provoking workshop led by the amazing LMG (lmgiq.com) team. The students thoroughly enjoyed planning out effective coverage for the building at the minimum cost. Thanks to the brilliant LMG team Iain Hill, Lee Smith, Matt Gilbert and Reuben Gilbert for making the workshops so engaging and putting relevant, real-world challenges to the students. #thinkutc #utc #datacentres #digitalinfrastructure #engineering #digital #cctv #wifi Stephanie Bolter

💗 AWARD WINNERS!!! We're so very proud to have won the School or College Widening Access Award at the National Education Opportunities Network (NEON) awards! Hollie Danby Sam Knowlton Baker Dearing Educational Trust
We’re thrilled to announce that UTC Swindon has been recognised as the winner of the 'School or College Widening Access Award' at the annual National Education Opportunities Network (NEON) Awards! This achievement highlights the incredible work being done to create opportunities for students from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds, empowering them to realise their potential and achieve success. Since 2017 through a strong partnership and collaborative working with Study Higher (A Uni Connect Partnership), over 300 students from low-participation areas have benefitted from this transformative work. UTC Swindon’s innovative approach, specialising in engineering and digital technologies, sets a benchmark for social mobility and progression and the results speak for themselves as increasing numbers of students are progressing to university and high-level apprenticeships each year. This award celebrates not just the hard work of the UTC Swindon team but also the life-changing impact of collaborative efforts to inspire and support young people. We’re proud to be part of this journey and to continue driving meaningful change in education and beyond. A special shout out to our Access Officer Jess Hill who has been working closely with the UTC supporting the school and students by delivering meaningful activities and programmes designed to have a real life impact on the choices young people make.

Our Digital Futures Programme has been cited in a techUK report calling on the government to act urgently to address the growing digital skills gap that, if left unchecked, could lose the economy billions. The report highlights a number of constraints affecting growth in data centres, including the need for central and local government to implement policies now to ensure the next generation is equipped to thrive in careers within the sector, sustaining the industry’s momentum. Bringing data centres into careers awareness in schools is vital – and our UK first programme of digital and employability skills designed and ran by digital infrastructure leaders takes it to whole new level! Running in all four of Activate Learning Education Trust 's UTCs (UTC Heathrow, UTC Reading, UTC Oxfordshire, UTC Swindon), students are learning technical and employability skills to prepare them for STEM-focused degrees or apprenticeships. The programme enables students to learn about the digital infrastructure industry, and the significant opportunities, even at entry level, that are available to them. Employment opportunities coming from the programme, (which now has 13 partners on board) are growing each year, with ALET supporting partners to develop and promote their apprenticeships. So far, with the programme having run in just UTC Heathrow until this academic year, five students have started working for partners after completing level 3 qualifications – companies who are thrilled with the level of skill and knowledge their new recruits bring with them! The programme rolled out to all four of ALET’s UTCs this September, and the intention is this expansion will continue, benefiting both the students getting a foot onto a lucrative career ladder and employers taking on enthusiastic, skilled apprentices. You can read more about the programme and TechUK's report here: https://lnkd.in/dKQUq4ms Employers interested in finding out more about working with our UTCs are encouraged to email [email protected] Companies working on the Digital Futures Programme are: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Ark Data Centres, CNet Training, CyrusOne, CBRE, Digital Realty, JLL, LMG (lmgiq.com), Yondr Group, Kao Data, DataX Connect, VIRTUS Data Centres, Vertiv, CBRE Global Workplace Solutions (GWS) CBRE Data Center Solutions Nicola Tatum Stephanie Bolter Wayne Edwards Sam Knowlton Baker Dearing Educational Trust Jas Kallah Jennie T. ✨ Help our students change lives in Kenya Donate here: https://lnkd.in/eBinrSyS Our students are tackling challenges faced by Kenyan schoolchildren in rural Loruko—where clean water, electricity, and even basic school supplies are scarce. Through our partnership with the #AmukaFoundation, and fantastic support from Cisco, DataX Connect, AtkinsRéalis, BMW Group, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Mott MacDonald, Keele University, JLL our students have proposed life-changing solutions to improve access to education, energy, and security and several students will be travelling to Kenya next summer to turn their idea into reality! To bring this project to life, we need your help. Your donations will help fund essential supplies for Loruko Primary School & support the implementation of the winning project idea in Kenya. Every donation helps, and thank you. Please share with anyone who may be interested. Baker Dearing Educational Trust Activate Learning Education Trust Jennie T.
