URM & HMP Partnership Pending... Some of the People and Commercial Team were incredibly privileged to be able to visit HMP Moorland last week and left feeling an immense amount of gratitude and inspiration. Getting to meet the people that keep the complex operation running along, with working inmates (plus a couple of Cats) and listening to their stories was heartwarming. HMP Moorland are dedicated to ensuring that inmates learn required skills and, in some cases, gain qualifications that many employers want and need in an employee. We hope that this is the start of a long and fruitful relationship with our local HMP's to enable EX-Offenders to make a positive contribution to society. This year members of URM transport, operations and business development teams visited the Resource & Waste Management EXPO at the Birmingham NEC alongside our newly appointed CEO Kevin Needham. It was great to network with some of our key business partners and suppliers and to see the very latest innovations and technologies in the world of recycling. URM are super proud of our Logistics and Garage team! As well as smashing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, they smashed their target of £1,000 raising nearly £1,400. Here are a few words from the team. “It was a tough day with a glorious start with the sun rising for the 05:30hrs start. 6 team members made it to the start with 1 not starting due to a prior ankle injury, 5 team members made it to the top of Pen-y-Ghent, Kev was struggling, and the decision was made for him to turn back. Long 12 mile walk from Pen-y-Ghent and the drag up Whernside in the rain. 5 team members making it to the top. The last assent up Ingleborough was grim with strong winds and teaming rain. Dean had dug deep to get over Whernside and completed 17 miles and 2 Peaks. Kev who hadn’t made Pen-y-Ghent re-joined the group for the final ascent but after taking a dizzy turn Brian walked him back down to meet Mark and they were driven back. Craig, Brandon, and Jamie pushed on and managed all 3 peaks in a moving time of 7hrs 58 mins – 23.96 miles and 5200 feet of elevation gain.” We cannot explain enough how proud we are of the team and thank you to everyone who helped support them and donated towards an amazing Charity. #AutisumAwareness #Trytoseethingsmyway
