This is an interesting turn of events. Is what "you'd lose down the back to the couch" a small price to pay for greener energy?? Starting this October, families and businesses will see an increase in their electricity bills as regulators adjust the levy to fund green energy development. The new charges will mean that households will pay an extra €3.23 per month. The previous charge was zero for the past year. Businesses will now pay €12.91 per month. Their previous charge was zero for the past year. Large Energy Users: Charges will be tied to actual electricity usage. These charge supports renewable energy initiatives apparently, so lets see what they come up with. Last year, consumers received a €276 million credit due to expected high wholesale electricity costs. However, since wholesale prices did not rise as anticipated, the CRU must now recover some of these funds. So here's the gamble: If wholesale prices exceed these rates, consumers get a credit. If they fall below, consumers cover the difference through the PSO levy. John Melvin, CRU’s Director of Wholesale Markets, emphasized that while the past two years provided credits and zero charges, renewable generators now need increased support under government schemes. My opinion, it's the price of a cup of coffee (well, it used to be) for greener energy.
