Core principles: This group is open to anyone who associates with the following core principles: 1. Tyre particles and chemicals are shed in significant quantities into the environment. 2. Tyre particles can potentially pollute air, soil and water. 3. Tyres shed material across a wide size range from macro to ultrafine particles. 4. Tyres contain certain chemical compounds that are potentially toxic to human, animal and marine life. 5. The size and shape of tyre particles generated in the laboratory may not necessarily correlate with real-world emissions.

Battery electric vehicles have made a significant contribution to clean mobility, but Electric cars indisputably have higher tire wear than comparable ICEs. This is not only a cost factor – the coarse particles of tire abrasion pollute the environment and the small particles are harmful to health. At first glance, three things are different compared with BEVs: significantly higher weight (depending on the range), better acceleration, and the recuperation. With the help of a simple model and real trips, the effectiveness of a speed limit and an acceleration limit can be shown. I am pleased to have my article on #Tireabrasion and #EVs published in the latest issue of Tire Technology International annual review of 2024. #tyreconsortium
