Social Media's CHANGING for younger people. How? Last week, the Australian government announced plans to ban social media for under 16s, in an effort to address growing concerns about the mental health of young people. But, is banning social media altogether the right thing to do? Or will it isolate an entire generation from something that has become such a huge part of our world. We, along with many others are sceptical about this decision. However, we do agree that social media platforms must take greater responsibility to make their app a safe space to scroll. Instagram - the most popular app among young people - has put a little more effort in by introducing several new features aimed to protect under 18s: 📱 An AI tool that detects users lying about their age. 🔞 Sensitive content being steered away from young users. 👤 And of course, the new teen accounts that were launched in September. To enforce all these new changes and rules will be another story as the current system is just too easy to bypass. ❗️New trending social media marketing strategy❗️ Have you seen non-food related brands use food within their marketing? Does it draw you in and make you hungry for their products? Well, this is a tactic called sensory marketing - a psychological method where brands engage in all 5 senses. A unique sensory emotion is created when you see these images, and even subconsciously, we associate different foods with different feelings. Marketers use these emotions to link their products to a certain feeling which makes their brand more memorable to the audience. A prime example of sensory marketing success is rhode skin. From glazed doughnuts to juicy raspberries, they use food to convey the vibe of their products and make their products look delicious whilst increasing talkability and conversation. A juxtaposition is sparked when beauty brands use images of food; it's almost as if the food isn't meant to be there.
