Today’s political leaders seeking to provide clean, low-cost sources of energy in abundance face a choice: Embrace the new age of nuclear technology and harness its power or continue paying the price of inaction. New analysis published by TBI reveals the impact nuclear power could have had on reducing the world’s emissions, had the technology continued to develop in the past few decades. The world is turning back to nuclear power as a route to decarbonising its economies. Our new paper calls on governments to better handle the risks and public attitudes towards nuclear power and other technologies to successfully tackle climate change: https://bit.ly/3OwM9A0 #climatechange #sustainability #nuclear #technology #netzero Tone Langengen

Last week’s agreement in Baku at #COP29 upheld the spirit of multilateralism amid geopolitical and economic uncertainty and set the stage for the next decade of climate action. Read TBI’s statement on the conclusion of COP29: https://bit.ly/4g8O35v The landmark $1.3 trillion climate finance agreement represents a marked increase in public-based support and a much-needed shift in the global climate finance conversation. While this is a step in the right direction, more funding and concrete measures are required to truly address the climate crisis. Urgent action is vital. Leaders must double down on turning these latest finance commitments into reality, strengthening partnerships between finance providers and developing countries, and ensuring the plans and project pipelines are in place for finance and technology to flow. TBI stands ready to work together to ensure that the commitments made at COP29 translate into real and impactful climate action where it is needed most. #climatechange #technology #finance #investment #sustainability

The Sahel is at a breaking point, where climate stress is driving resource scarcity, fueling violent extremism, and exposing deep geopolitical fractures. Couldn’t be prouder to have worked on our latest report from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change that unpacks how extremist groups exploit weak governance to control resources, undermining states and escalating conflict. Compounding the crisis, regional fragmentation - seen vividly in ECOWAS’ struggle to coordinate cross-border responses - is deepening instability. The bottom line: Addressing these issues requires bold, cooperative solutions that integrate climate resilience, security, and governance - and to that end we build out the idea of Sahel Compact. 29 hours of flying to get to #Brasilia - 2 days of excellent meetings and conversations on #DigitalGovt, #DPI and #GovAI and 30 hrs to travel back home to India. Tiring but very excited by the way countries including Brazil are adapting to DPI and exploring developing DPI+AI strategies to reimagine governance—the next step of Digital Government. Also excited by possibilities of India and Brazil partnerships in the future of #DPI and #AI. Good to have met up with the dynamic Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services Esther Dweck and Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago for some excellent discussions. Exciting news for Vietnam’s economic development journey! The Politburo has just signed off on establishing financial centers in HCMC and Da Nang, marking a significant milestone in the country’s ambition to strengthen its position in the global financial landscape. 🌏💼 While this is a visionary step forward, the road ahead is hugely ambitious and complex.
