We believe no care worker should face financial hardship alone. https://linktr.ee/thecareworkerscharity
About us
There are nearly 2 million care workers in the UK, contributing to one of Britain's largest workforces, and caring for some of the most vulnerable people in our society. For Britain's care workers, early starts, long hours and mentally draining work are part and parcel of the job. As a result, it's all too easy for illness, or other unforeseen circumstances, to push them beyond their financial limits. In recognition of this dedicated and selfless workforce, The Care Workers Charity was founded in 2009 with the promise to provide support to those who find themselves facing the burden of economic hardship. As a country, we depend on our care workers to be there for us on our rainy day. The Care Workers Charity is there for them on theirs. https://linktr.ee/thecareworkerscharity

💙 Case Study: How The Care Workers' Charity Helped Sabrina Overcome a Financial Crisis 💙 Sabrina has dedicated nearly 14 years to working in care, yet she wasn’t aware of The Care Workers' Charity until her new employer introduced her to it. When Sabrina faced a financial crisis, she decided to reach out for help, though she wasn’t sure if support was available. 💬 "I applied for help in a time when I was financially in trouble and saw no way out. The information from the charity was clear, and any questions I had were quickly answered." At the time, Sabrina had been hit with a large car maintenance bill and had maxed out her options, with no available credit or family support. With the help of a crisis grant from The Care Workers' Charity, she was able to cover the repair costs, ensuring her car was safe and reliable for work and family needs. 💬 "The money was a huge help; it eased my financial burden, letting me fix my debt, repair my car, and keep my life on track." Sabrina is incredibly grateful and now encourages colleagues to consider reaching out for support from the charity, knowing first-hand that it’s a safe and compassionate resource for care workers. 💪 Help us provide critical support to more care workers like Sabrina. Your donation truly makes a difference. https://lnkd.in/eJ47WM_q #CareWorkersSupport #Donate #HelpingHands #CareWorkersCharity

We were pleased to support this research by helping to recruit 16 young care workers to participate. This research reflects what we have been hearing from young care workers during Professional Care Workers' Week and recent roundtable discussions. Like all the care workers we speak with, young care workers talk about how much they enjoy their jobs. However, they also speak about the challenges of the role, long days and low pay that means they cannot afford to enjoy doing the same things as peers working in other sectors. We agree with the research recommendations that there needs to be a more open and honest approach to recruiting, providing realistic insights into all aspects of the job and offering support for young people once they are in the role. Care work requires people from all walks of life—young and old—and it's essential to build a workforce that reflects this diversity. Young people can bring fresh perspectives and energy to the sector, and we should embrace and support them in building long and fulfilling careers in care.
'I just can’t imagine being 50 doing this job. As much as I love doing it now, it’s too much to do forever… I’m trying to think, okay, what can I have lined up for when I’m ready to leave…' Today we have launched the third piece of research in a series exploring the question: what can social care do to recruit and retain more younger workers? This long-read explores the experiences of young people who are or have worked in the sector. Read the full piece. https://lnkd.in/efKkQ-vZ
