The Business of Events (TBOE) is an independent Think Tank for the UK events sector.
About us
The Business of Events (TBOE) is an independent Think Tank for the UK events sector; an industry that has enormous economic potential. Our primary role is to raise the importance and profile of business events as an economic, policy, and community driver and to maximise the opportunities achieved by having a strong business events sector. We achieve this through a combination of Policy, Advocacy, Content and Engagement, bringing together senior leaders from across the business events sector to discuss policy ideas and initiatives and to connect with government, policy makers and influencers, public sector organisations and politicians. TBOE is not a lobbying organisation. Established in 2018 by brand communications agency davies tanner, our shared vision is supported by several strategic partners, including the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events, VisitBritain and UKEVENTS (formerly the Business Visits & Events Partnership), along with many of the UK’s leading business events destinations, venues and trade associations. We achieve this through bringing together leaders from across the business events sector to connect with government, policy makers and influencers, public sector organisations and politicians. These events are supported by several strategic and supporting partners, including the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, the All Party Parliamentary Group for Events, VisitBritain and the Business Visits & Events Partnership. Please check the website for updates on the events and Global Destinations Report.

Director - News & Content at Davies Tanner and The Business of Events, events industry commentator, consultant, mentor, UKEVENTS executive committee member and communications lead
It's been a valuable couple of days at IBTM World in Barcelona. On Monday we hosted the Forum for Advocacy, and on Tuesday followed that up with four back-to-back sessions on the Impact Stage. PCMA CEO Sherrif Karamat set the tone by challenging DMOs to reinvent themselves as ‘Destination Stewards’. He stressed that the business events industry needs to lobby beyond the Minister for Tourism so that all government departments understand the impacts of job creation, education and innovation. Next, a discussion on the findings from The Business of Events' latest Global Destinations Report, produced in collaboration with SFA-Connect (Sarah Fleming Associates Ltd), ICC Belfast | Waterfront Hall | Ulster Hall Belfast and IBTM World, highlighted the challenges of staff shortages and securing funding in regions where there is insufficient recognition of the sector’s value. It was great to be joined by Sarah Fleming and Ross Moffett. American Express Global Business Travel’s Head of Global Sustainability Meetings & Events, Eloísa Urrutia Monnotísa Urrutia, and Barcelona Convention Bureau Director, Christoph Tessmar, discussed how business events can counterbalance the challenges of over-tourism and climate change by contributing positively to local communities. Lastly, I was also joined by Barbara Jamison-Woods from City Destinations Alliance | CityDNA and Senthil Gopinath from ICCA to explore an example of a unified approach to advocacy, with City DNA providing real-world examples, and ICCA sharing this best practice through its Advocacy Alliance. Thank you to everyone who supported our sessions. IBTM Events Davies Tanner #conference #exhibition #tradeshow #events #eventprofs
