Providing residential nursing care, rehabilitation, respite and end of life care to physically disabled veterans.

About us

Since 1919, Care for Veterans (formerly The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home) has been providing nursing & rehabilitation for disabled ex-Servicemen and women. Care for Veterans is a charity for long-term and respite residents who have travelled from all over the UK to take advantage of our on-site services. On any given day at Care for Veterans, ex-Service personnel are learning to walk again in our physiotherapy department, stroke victims are finding their voice in occupational therapy and veterans who gave their life to their country, are being cared for on our wards. For 98 years our charity has provided first-class support for disabled ex-Servicemen and women. With no regular government funding it’s imperative we raise £1.3 million each year in order to keep providing the care our heroes deserve and to remain for the injured returning from Afghanistan, who will undoubtedly need our help in years to come. • We are delighted to announce a strategic merger between Care for Veterans and Royal Star & Garter. This pivotal move will combine the strengths of both organisations, enhancing our capabilities to serve Armed Forces veterans and their families facing disabilities, neurological conditions, or dementia. This merger will expand our operations to four care homes across the UK, allowing us to leverage shared expertise, resources, and support functions more effectively. It represents a significant step towards optimising the quality of care and expanding our reach within the veteran community. Both organisations, with a storied legacy of service initiated post-Great War, are committed to maintaining the highest standards of care and support for our veterans. We recognise the importance of safeguarding our current residents and staff while we continue to enhance the services we deliver. For more information on how this merger will foster innovation and improve services for our veterans, please visit our full announcement: https://lnkd.in/e3DKFTYE Let’s join hands in supporting this new chapter that promises better care and support for those who have served our nation.

  • Three Care for Veterans residents, accompanied by staff and nurses, attended the Cenotaph ceremony in London on Sunday. They joined tens of thousands of veterans and civilians, led by the King, in paying their respects to the fallen at the annual National Service of Remembrance. Nick, Veteran Networks Liaison Officer at Care for Veterans, shared, “I felt such pride to march in the footsteps of these true veterans. I can only describe how emotional it was, and the emotion of it swept me away.” John said “Today has been truly humbling.” Ed told me “I am immensely proud to be here representing Care for Veterans.” Stephen added “I feel so honoured to have met Johnson Beharry, with the Victoria Cross.” Care for Veterans, based in Worthing, provides long-term nursing care, rehabilitation, respite, and award-winning end-of-life care to disabled ex-armed forces personnel from the RAF, Army, Royal Navy, and Auxiliary services. Care for Veterans hosted a Remembrance service on Monday for residents, staff, and supporters at Gifford House in Worthing. . . #careforveterans #remeberanceday

  • We would like to say a BIG thank you to the nine brilliant volunteers who joined us today from Bowers & Wilkins 👏 They gave us a day of their time, within which they gave some much-needed TLC to our gardens - from pruning the flowerbeds to giving a fresh lick of paint to some of our garden furniture and bird boxes. On top of this, they also supported our Wellbeing Hub activities. Their efforts have ensured our veteran residents can continue to enjoy the beautiful grounds and facilities available to them. We are so grateful for this act of kindness. If your business could spare some time to support Care for Veterans, please do get in touch. • Harry Rule is currently undertaking an incredible task to raise funds for Care for Veterans. He is a dear friend of Steve Boylan, a resident at Care for Veterans. Below is what Steve and Pete, his father, want to share with you about Harry's journey. "Harry is a great friend of Steve Boylan. They served together in the Royal Engineers. Harry is halfway through a mammoth trek across the European Alps – the Via Alpina Red Trail, 2563kms/1592 miles across some of the most arduous but scenic mountains in Europe. He has endured a very unpleasant weather pattern so far.  He is raising money for Care for Veterans. When Harry visits Steve at CfV, he realises how much Steve likes it here and wants to do an epic task like this to help. He has already raised £6031, a fantastic sum. He started in Slovenia 58 days ago and will pass through 8 countries: Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Lichenstein, Italy, and France, ending in Monaco in approximately 1 month. You can follow Harry's journey by clicking here: https://lnkd.in/eC_yNbsk Each day Harry publishes a Blog on Facebook with the most interesting, beautiful pictures of the trail. You will not see better pictures and perfectly narrated descriptions.  Nothing is impossible for Harry, can’t is a word alien to him. After a marvellous career in the forces, Harry lives in Slovenia but often travels back to England. He is respected throughout the forces community and is a true champion of the Royal Engineers.  Please help Harry and Steve if you can, thank you."
