Unleashing the power of partnerships for a prosperous, sustainable future
About us
The Partnering Initiative, is a pioneering global NGO, dedicated to driving widespread, systematic and effective collaboration between civil society, government and companies to deliver sustainable development challenges in all parts of the world. Bringing together 20 years of experience, and working in over 25 countries to-date, TPI continuously breaks new ground in expanding the theory and improving the practice of cross-sector collaboration. Through our programmes of action research, we systematise the essential processes of partnering and develop practical tools to help all sectors identify new opportunities, learn how to collaborate and implement effective partnerships. Our training and capacity-building programmes promote new standards of professional partnering practice and build the skills of practitioners around the world. The strategic advice and support we provide to leading international companies, development agencies, governments, and civil society organisations helps them rethink and adjust their approaches and harness the power of partnership to support their missions. The services we provide directly to partnerships help a wide range of collaborations to transform into strong, efficient and highly effective mechanisms that are yielding benefits well beyond their original objectives.

❌ DO NOT PARTNER… Shocked to hear this from a partnering organisation with 20+ years pioneering the art and science of collaboration? Here's the uncomfortable truth: A rushed partnership can be worse than no partnership at all. But wait! If you partner properly, taking the time to: 📋Master partnership fundamentals 📈Invest in relationship building 🪨Create rock-solid foundations for the partnership 🔎Implement robust review processes ...then you're set to achieve impact far beyond what you could achieve alone. TPI has helped hundreds of organisations and partnerships reach their full potential (see below). The key? Don't rush. Invest upfront in your staff, your organisation and in building the collaboration to best practice standards. Ready to partner properly? 🤝 Ever wondered what happens when you bring together 20 professionals from 9 different sectors to learn about building effective partnerships? I recently sat down with Melissa Porteous, Senior Programme and Training Manager at The Partnering Initiative (TPI), to delve into the rising demand for cross-sectoral partnership training and the unique benefits of convening participants from diverse sectors. Key insights that emerged: ✨ Despite diverse backgrounds - from small NGOs to large corporations - organisations face surprisingly similar partnership challenges 💡 The power of perspective-shifting: by utilising interactive scenario-based learning, participants are able to understand problems from different perspectives, often leading to powerful "lightbulb moments" 🌍 Theory meets practice: Real-world experiences from varied sectors allow us to continuously enrich our partnership frameworks What struck me most? The reminder that while organisations may speak different languages, the fundamentals of effective collaboration remain universal. Curious about cross-sector partnerships?
