About us
The Cast Metals Federation is the voice for the UK cast metals industry, representing the best of British casting to organisations and individuals across the globe. With a membership in excess of 150 foundries and suppliers accounting for over 85% of the output of UK castings, our members produce over 2 billion pounds worth of castings in any size, shape, metal and weight using all casting processes annually. Cast Metals Federation is the single voice for the UK foundry industry and has been for over 20 years, having been formed from the merger of the three sector industry bodies (BFA, BICTA and LMFA). The CMF not only promotes the UK castings industry as a whole, it also influences discussions with government bodies and negotiates on UK and European legislation that affects us all. The CMF also sets out to inform and advise buyers of castings and component designers, providing a single source of information on the fundamentals of the various casting processes, guiding them to better castings from better suppliers. For industry, organisations and individuals across the globe, the CMF provides a single point of contact for the best of British casting, whether for casting enquiries or general information on the activities of the UK foundry industry for every application and market sector. This year has been a very busy one for The Cast Metals Federation, CMF. Our goal is to represent and support every aspect of the cast metals sector, growing our influence with stakeholders and being an advocate for our members. The Government has announced the make-up of the Circular Economy Taskforce. "The Circular Economy Taskforce’s expertise will enable co-design of the first strategy to begin the transition to a circular economy in England. The strategy will: support economic growth, create green jobs, promote efficient and productive use of resources, accelerate the transition to net zero emissions. Our industry can be proud of already being a fundamental part of the #circulareconomy for #metals as secondary metal is our principle raw material. #metalrecyclesforever #castings #foundry #foundries #bestofbritishcasting #ukmanufacturing

Updated FAQs on CBAM published by the EU with a useful overview from our member, CarbonChain. 👇 Link to FAQs: 👉https://lnkd.in/dR_KYgwP
🚨 The EU have updated their FAQ and - importantly - the Installation Data Template 🚦 Make sure to contact all of your installations to provide guidance on this update to ensure that you get the correct data back from them! Some of the key pieces to be aware of regarding the updates in the FAQ: 📊 Q77 During the definitive period, authorised CBAM declarants will be able to use default values, without quantitative limits, in cases where actual emissions data is not available. However, it will likely be more favourable for importers to provide the calculation of embedded emissions. 🏗️ Q86 Transformation processes for determining embedded emissions in iron, steel, and aluminium products, including re-heating, re-melting, casting, rolling, forging, coating, cutting, welding, and finishing, that take place outside of the installation and then are returned to the primary installation (e.g. outsourced / sent to another site) may simply be included in the same installation calculation. 🔦 Q116 Reporting declarants can apply for "authorised CBAM declarant" status starting 2025 - this sounds like it's going to be delayed a tad, as it was previously stated from 1 Jan 2025. 🏮 Q128: Authorised declarants will buy CBAM certificates quarterly, equivalent to 80% of embedded emissions - critically nothing that this can be on an actual OR default value basis. ⚡ 129-134: Loads of updates and guidance on the CBAM Certificates, calculations and timelines. If you've joined a CarbonChain webinar on these pieces before you'd be well ahead of the curve here!

More (and more affordable) electricity for our #energy-challenged businesses is key for our future #competitiveness so we welcome this Action Plan from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. And of course an additional aspect of this, which should not be overlooked, is ensuring that our #UKmanufacturing companies in the #castings and wider #metals sector based all around the country, are part of the supply chains for all of the infrastructure and building required for this, and we ensure a minimum amount of UK-derived content up and down the design, procurement and build phases. We have hundreds of thousands of SMEs, in all regions of the UK, who want to be part of the solution - and our UK Trade Associations can help. We are ready to support. So this could be a win-win for the growth we are all seeking. #foundries #castings #energy #metalrecyclesforever #smes #ukengineering Back British Metals Initiative
📣 Published today, our Clean Power Action Plan outlines how we're going to reach clean power by 2030. It's the most ambitious reform to our energy system in a generation and represents a new era of electricity planning, building and generation. Part of the Prime Minister’s Plan for Change, it focuses on getting more clean power into, and around our energy system. And outlines how we’re going to reform and speed up the way decisions are made about building and connecting our renewable energy projects to the grid. It will get us off the roller coaster of international fossil fuel markets - protecting consumers and businesses. It also sets out how we will deliver the generation and infrastructure to reach our goal - giving investors the confidence to invest, boosting supply chains and supporting new jobs. We are delighted to welcome Almath Crucibles Limited as a new supplier member. Sales Director Michael Misson says, “We can see the clear benefit in joining the Federation - we continually seek to work with our customers, not only to improve existing products, but bring new ones to the market. Being part of a trusted organisation like the CMF helps us to achieve this whilst also demonstrating our longer-term commitment to the metals sector in the UK.” Simon Forrester agrees,“We are delighted to welcome Almath to the CMF family. As the organisation representing the whole value chain of foundries and those who supply them, CMF are a natural home for Almath. Already we are discussing how they can support foundry members with new products and share best practice via our 2025 events programme.” #ceramics #ukmanufacturing #foundries #castings #bettertogether #innovation #alumina #crucibles #refractories
