Timely Reparations for Timeless Wrongs. Check below ⤵️ this timely report on reparations by The Advocacy Team in collaboration with Development Reimagined! In a recent speech in Kingston, Jamaica, Jeremy Corbyn, Independent MP for Islington North and member of the APPG for Afrikan Reparations, emphasised that reparations involve “recognising this nation’s [the UK’s] role in crimes against humanity, no matter how uncomfortable that process of reflection may be.” Reparations, though sometimes seen as a complex term, simply refer to measures taken to acknowledge, address, and compensate for historical injustices and systemic harms inflicted on marginalised communities. Such measures are crucial for addressing historical wrongs, promoting economic equity, fostering restoration and healing, preventing future harm, and upholding moral responsibility. To learn more about reparations, the measures involved, and how Global North countries can finance these efforts, consult the report compiled by our experts at The Advocacy Team in collaboration with Development Reimagined ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/dYd5VvvM

COP29 countdown: What’s next for Loss and Damage? As COP29 takes place in Azerbaijan, the focus on financing climate challenges intensifies, notably around the Loss and Damage Fund. While the costs of climate-induced loss and damage are hard to quantify, a projection from a 2022 UN report estimated up to $300 billion per year by 2030. Despite the launch of the Loss and Damage Fund at COP28 and early pledges, the finance gap remains significant. With COP29 labelled as the “finance COP”, it offers a great opportunity to align climate finance with global needs. Mathilde Benguigui from The Advocacy Team and Brooke Moore from the European Policy Centre think-tank delve into key questions on loss and damage and explore potential solutions for addressing them at COP29. ❔How can the funding gap—projected to reach up to $671 billion annually by 2030—be closed? ❔What mechanisms will ensure funds are accessible, effective, and aligned with local needs? ❔How can the EU leverage its unique position on the FRLD Board to champion reforms and drive action?
