About us

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service looks after a population of approximately 1,152 million covering an area of 1,676 square kilometres that includes several large urban areas such as Guildford, Redhill and Woking, 103 kilometres of motorway, close proximity to two major airports and over 200 identified sites that pose greater risk throughout the County. As well as providing an emergency response service to the people of Surrey, we focus our efforts on education - raising awareness amongst the most vulnerable people in order to reduce suffering caused by fires, road traffic collisions and other emergencies. Surrey's fire fighters are trained to deal with a range of emergency situations, not just fires and road traffic collisions. These activities include working with other agencies to respond to widespread flooding and other water rescue incidents or dealing with emergencies that may involve hazardous materials, for example. We also provide information and advice on community issues affecting public safety as well as enforcing fire safety legislation. We aim to work in a more collaborative way in the future to deal with emergencies. We are currently piloting a Co-Responding scheme to help deliver medical help to life critical incidents such as cardiac arrests.

  • Our Chief Fire Officer, Dan Quin shares his thoughts on the important role fire and rescue services play in road safety. Read the full piece on the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC)'s website 👇

The National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is calling for urgent action to reduce road traffic collisions and fatalities across the UK. Last year, fire and rescue services (FRSs) responded to over 31,000 road traffic collisions—a stark reminder of the critical role they play in road safety. To enhance prevention efforts, NFCC is urging: 👉 UK and devolved governments to consult on expanding FRS statutory duties to reflect their prevention work, supported by sustained funding 👉 Development of a new national road safety strategy for England, mirroring Scotland’s approach, with evidence-based targets to reduce deaths and serious injuries 👉 Consistent standards for Road Safety Partnerships to drive best practice 👉 Introduction of graduated driver licensing to protect young and novice drivers 👉 Road safety themes to be embedded into school curriculums "Road safety is a public health priority requiring bold action and coordination," says Dan Quin, NFCC’s Road Safety and Road Rescue Lead. • We’re incredible proud of our newest recruits, who have been giving their all in training over the past few weeks. Their hard work and dedication were on full display as they completed the Surrey Three Peaks Challenge on Wednesday 🏔️💪 – all in support of the Firefighters Charity. Through muddy trails and cold December weather, they showed incredible teamwork, resilience, and determination. These photos capture some of the moments from their inspiring journey. On Friday, 15th December, we’ll be marking the culmination of their training with their Pass Out Parade, which will be live-streamed on our Facebook page. This event honours their hard work and marks the beginning of their journey as fully trained firefighters, ready to serve and protect our communities. Please join us in congratulating them and consider supporting the Fire Fighters Charity to help them continue their vital work supporting firefighters and their families. ❤️ #SurreyThreePeaks #Firefighters #Teamwork #FireFightersCharity #Surrey

  • Our Chief Fire Officer Dan Quin joined the crew to wrap gifts for the Reigate Fire Station's Christmas Toy Drop. This initiative is for children and families in our community during the festive season, providing gifts for children and young people spending Christmas in hospital, with any remaining presents being donated to local charities. From roller skates to cuddly toys, the generosity of the public has been incredible. There’s still time to contribute—new, unwrapped gifts can be dropped off at Reigate or Guildford Fire Stations. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible.

  • 🌟 A huge congratulations and well done to Karen, Danni and Hannah for winning Neurodiversity Champion of the Year at the Fire and Emergency Awards on Friday! This follows the success to introduce Microlink to our service, which works with staff to understand their needs and recommend reasonable adjustments to support them in their work. 👏 A big well done to Bernie and Matt who were also nominated and shortlisted for awards (Unsung Hero and Most Influential LGBTQ+ Individual in Fire)! #TeamSurrey

  • Yesterday, on #GivingTuesday, we’re we were thrilled to be part of the journey of a special donation to Fire Fighters Charity (FFC) Residential Centre at Marine Court! Else-Marie, a retired physiotherapist and East Horsley resident, generously donated her family’s cherished pool table which was originally bought in Texas in 2009 and transported to England. The table has provided years of joy to Else-Marie's family, who wanted it to bring happiness and value to the community, and FFC’s work in recuperation and rehabilitation made it the perfect fit. The operation was a true team effort as transport was handled by a team of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service's trainees, while former table maker Rob came out of retirement to help assemble the pool table on arrival. A huge thank you to Else-Maria, her family, and everyone involved in making this incredible donation happen. ❤️ #FirefightersCharity #SurreyFireAndRescueService #SFRS #Surrey

  • Our Wellbeing Garden at Woking Fire Station is now open! Designed by Woking firefighters, this outdoor space is a place for crews to relax, reflect, and host Veterans’ Hub meetings. Crew Commander, Gary said: “It’s a space for us to unwind, whether that's after a tough incident or during a break. We’re excited to have a garden to call our own — somewhere to de-stress and even enjoy a bit of gardening.” A big thank you to our partners for helping make this happen. 🌿 RHS Wisley 🔨 Wickes, Woking & Jewson, Woking ⚽ Blakedown Sport & Play Ltd, Chobham #Wellbeing #CommunitySupport #Partnerships #Woking #Surrey #SFRS
