Stonepillow - Preventing homelessness, restoring lives.
About us
Stonepillow offers shelter, information and support to empower homeless and vulnerable people to make positive changes in their lives. Over the last 30 years, Stonepillow have expanded their services across West Sussex to support the growing number of people who find themselves on the streets. Currently, the two most common reasons for people accessing our services are family or relationship breakdown and loss of private accommodation. Since 2010, the number of people sleeping rough in England has increased by 164% (from 1,768 in 2010 to 4,751 in 2017). However, these rough sleeping estimates do not take into account the ‘hidden homeless’, those who are in temporary accommodation or sleeping on friends or family’s sofas or in their cars. Stonepillow provides support 365 days a year and have 96 clients in their accommodation on any given evening. Tackling homelessness requires more than just meeting the day-to-day needs of rough sleepers - providing shelter is a start but people need long term support to help them leave the streets for good. Stonepillow provides a complete recovery journey, focusing on the key areas of health, housing and work, and to help people find independent accommodation they can call home.

Thank you to Brad and the Team for inviting Stonepillow to take part in the Talking Charities podcast. Anyone who knows me will understand that I can talk for England about Stonepillow and the amazing work that the staff, volunteers and trustees do to support our ambitions of preventing homelessness and restoring lives. Thank you to St. James’s Place for their continued support. I hope you enjoy the podcast and find it helpful in better understanding the work of Stonepillow and the impact/challenges of homelessness on the lives of those we support. We have recently had the pleasure of supporting Stonepillow through the St James Place Charitable Foundation. The funding is crucial to Stonepillow’s ability to deliver continuous, holistic support to individuals experiencing homelessness. Stonepillow receive no government funding for their Day Hubs. They need to raise £300,000 annually to sustain the Day Hubs' services year-round. Congratulations to Michael Causer who was announced as Stonepillow's Volunteer of the Year at our AGM! ⭐ Michael volunteers at our Bognor Regis Restore shop four times a week, devoting over one hundred hours per month to our charity. When a job needs doing, Michael is the first person to offer, whether it's sorting clothes, organising the bri-a-brac, opening and closing the shop, you name it Michael does it! We are incredibly lucky to have Michael as a volunteer and many other extraordinary volunteers like him, who are all worthy of an award for their services! Michael was presented the award by the High Sheriff of West Sussex, Philipa Gogarty, and our Chair of Trustees, Olivia Pinkney. #Volunteer #Volunteering #Charity #HomelessCharity #BognorRegis #RoughSleeping

The latest episode of the Talking Charities podcast is now live! In this episode, we feature Stonepillow Charity, an incredible organisation dedicated to helping homeless people restart their lives. Hilary & Jason tell Emma Shepherd how a tragic death on the streets of Chichester mobilised a local community. The episode highlights the profound impact of compassion and collective effort, especially poignant at this time of year. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/eSX7M2Ka
