SIGBI confirms its decision to withdraw from the social media platform X (formally Twitter) with immediate effect. In recent months, the site has shown a disregard for tolerance and accountability, with an increase in abusive, racist and hateful posts. As an organisation which stands up for women and girls, we find the platform to be a place where abuse against women is not just tolerated but thrives and women can no longer post freely without fear in this increasingly toxic environment. We will ensure our work and messages continue on other social channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram) and encourage all our members and clubs to confidently share their news where adequate safeguarding and protections exist. #soroptimists #StandingUpForWomenandGirls

Great to see our 16 Days of Activism picking up the interest of the media. This article also shines a spotlight on our Fresh Thoughts booklet, a resource formed from an initial response to questions received from survivors in a women’s refuge, turned into a full-scale booklet. This booklet is also the winner of our Best Practice Awards for 2024, designed and written by Soroptimist International Poole, Purbeck & District, and is now a practical tool – and solution in support of the Government’s agenda to reduce Violence Against Women and Girls. #VAWG #16days #StandingUpForWomenandGirls #soroptimists

Taking a moment to share our pride in the great work we do. Our Best Practice Awards at our conference a few weeks ago, shine a light on the variety and reach of our projects. Our Best Practice Awards reinforce that it’s only by working together that we can empower women and girls to achieve their full potential and eliminate barriers and discriminations that hinder women’s progress. Read more about our Best Practice Awards, the winners and shortlisted projects in our press release and flip book leaflet both available here https://lnkd.in/eM5hQ8aQ. #WeStandUpForWomenAndGirls
