Seda’s Claire Patterson had the privilege of participating as a panelist at this insightful event organised by Medicines Discovery Catapult. Claire delivered a presentation on formulation approaches for drug delivery to the central nervous system (CNS), addressing both opportunities and challenges in this critical area of research. Her talk highlighted a spectrum of strategies, including: Direct but invasive methods like intrathecal and intracerebroventricular injections, ligand-targeted nanoparticulate systems and less invasive approaches such as nose-to-brain delivery. Each approach has unique challenges, and advancing these methods requires a concerted, multidisciplinary effort to overcome the barriers to effective CNS drug delivery for different types of modalities. We’re excited about the collaborative discussions at the event and look forward to the summary report, which aims to catalyse further action in this field. Thank you to the team at Medicines Discovery Catapult, the other panelists, and all the delegates for an engaging and productive meeting! Last week, the MDC team hosted 'Transforming Therapeutic Delivery to the CNS: Challenges and Innovations' at Venue Hire at Wellcome Collection, London. Diseases of the CNS represent an area of huge unmet need, with a large and growing patient population and devastating societal consequences. Emerging advanced and complex therapeutics have the potential to transform this picture. However, to achieve this goal, new innovations are required to deliver them across the blood-brain barrier. The event brought together leading experts from across the UK with patient charities and funders to explore the challenges and the priorities for future research. Hosted by MDC's Sarah Brockbank, Emma V. Jones, Sara Imarisio, Paul Sharp, William Drewe, Nicola Heron and Martin Main. #Neuroscience #DrugDiscovery #CNS Oxygen Strategy
