At Project EDWARD we are really pleased to see this positive stance on road safety for today and tomorrow from the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC)
The National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is calling for urgent action to reduce road traffic collisions and fatalities across the UK. Last year, fire and rescue services (FRSs) responded to over 31,000 road traffic collisions—a stark reminder of the critical role they play in road safety. To enhance prevention efforts, NFCC is urging: 👉 UK and devolved governments to consult on expanding FRS statutory duties to reflect their prevention work, supported by sustained funding 👉 Development of a new national road safety strategy for England, mirroring Scotland’s approach, with evidence-based targets to reduce deaths and serious injuries 👉 Consistent standards for Road Safety Partnerships to drive best practice 👉 Introduction of graduated driver licensing to protect young and novice drivers 👉 Road safety themes to be embedded into school curriculums "Road safety is a public health priority requiring bold action and coordination," says Dan Quin, NFCC’s Road Safety and Road Rescue Lead.
