A small act of kindness can go a long way to help us to support UK police, past and present. £15 can provide access to a wellbeing app for one year. £50 will go towards the cost of a clinical assessment to ensure those impacted by trauma get access to the right help and support. Show police you care this Christmas and make a donation now. Leave a thank you message with your donation and we’ll share it with those who dedicate their lives to keeping us safe. Your support will help us provide specialist clinical therapy, access to mental health support and financial assistance to those who have been exposed to physical and psychological trauma in their policing role. Visit https://lnkd.in/ePa2uXZd to find out more and #ShowPoliceYouCare. Every 10 minutes, a police officer is injured in their job, as a result of being assaulted. The police find themselves in harm’s way protecting the public every single day. The physical and psychological scars of policing take their toll on those who keep us safe, and they carry those scars for life. Many won’t ask for help for fear of ridicule, not being believed, or losing their job. So, they suffer in silence with no end in sight, and no-one to talk to in confidence who can provide the help and care they need. Police Care UK provide specialist clinical therapy and financial assistance to those exposed to physical or psychological trauma in their policing role. We support those who provide your protection, safety and security, and are there when they need us the most. Show police you care this Christmas, with a donation to Police Care UK. For those working in policing, the relationship between work and personal life may not fit well this time of year. In police families, the top fear of under 5s is their policing parent will not come home safe at night. Officers who told us they find it “very difficult” to take time away from their job for personal or family matters, have Complex PTSD rates over 50% higher than the UK-wide average for police. For those who have left the service with untreated trauma, this time of year can trigger difficult memories and flashbacks. Trauma does not go away. Police Care UK provide specialist clinical therapy and financial assistance to those exposed to physical or psychological trauma in their policing role. We support those who provide your protection, safety and security, and are there when they need us the most. Show police you care this Christmas, with a donation to Police Care UK. Christmas is supposed to be fun, but stress can crush the festive period. With 46 per cent of police officers describing their work as ‘very’ or ‘extremely’ stressful, adding #Christmas to the melting pot can make things even more challenging for policing. Here are seven simple steps to combat the pinch points and push your wellbeing further up your Christmas priority list. Deep abdominal breathing Breathing deeply and slowly through your nose, expanding your lower rib cage, and letting your tummy move forward for a count of between three and five seconds can immediately reduce stress levels as the tension leaves your body. Stretch Relieving tension in the body is one of the best ways to relieve tension in the mind. Stretch away the stress with some easy yoga poses. Visit https://lnkd.in/gdq9gDB for free online videos to follow from the comfort of home. Appreciate what you have Spending time to stop and appreciate what you have helps put the daily frustrations into perspective. Be grateful for the good things – no matter how small - and use that gratitude to see life more positively. Think of a happy place Visualisation is a great technique to help anxiety. It lets you relax, unwind, and take a moment away from your busy day. Sit somewhere quietly, close your eyes and mentally return to your favourite holiday destination, remembering every detail of your surroundings. Bliss. Be kind It’s better to give than receive, and giving the gift of kindness to those around us is free and something we can do all year round - shifting the focus off ourselves. A smile, a kind word, a hug, help with a chore, or a thoughtful gesture costs nothing and pays off with a feel-good glow. Make time for you Step away from the busy and frantic, turn off the phone and carve out some me-time this Christmas. A warm bubble bath or the treat of shutting the door and finding a quiet moment to read a book or listen to music. Learn to say ‘no’ Trying to keep everyone happy is impossible, but saying yes to everything when you are already overcommitted and under pressure sets us up for failure. Saying no isn’t about avoiding your responsibilities or shutting yourself off. It’s about gaining the strength to give the absolute best of yourself. Police Care UK provide specialist clinical therapy and financial assistance to those exposed to physical or psychological trauma in their policing role. We support those who provide your protection, safety and security, and are there when they need us the most. Show police you care this Christmas, with a donation to Police Care UK.
