We are delighted to announce that we have backed a management buyout of the world’s leading Asia-focused ‘cultural adventure’ brand, Inside Travel Group | B Corp™. We have invested alongside Cool Japan Fund クールジャパン機構, Japan’s sovereign wealth fund focused on investing in businesses that promote Japanese culture around the world. The brand is a thought leader in ‘cultural adventure’ travel, combining sights, both well-known and off-radar, with hands-on cultural experiences and a slice of everyday life. It connects travellers with people in each destination – guides, artisans, restauranteurs, retailers, locals and ex-pats – to bring the country to life. They also realized that current tour operator offerings didn't fully capture everyday Japanese culture, sparking a desire to share a more authentic experience with others. The market for travellers into Asia from the US, UK and Australia is forecast to grow rapidly, reaching £6.3bn by 2026. In 2024, ITG’s sales will exceed £65m, growing 33% from the previous year. Our investment will back the current founders Simon King and Alastair Donnelly alongside their senior leadership team. Our investment will help ITG maintain its leading position as the Asian specialist and enable the business to further drive brand awareness across the UK, US and Australia. It is the fifth investment from our seventh fund, and fourth in travel following our investment into Martin Randall in August 2024, Rabbie’s in June 2022 and The Thinking Traveller in November 2020. Dan Stern, Piper’s Partner, who led the deal, said: ‘We are excited to be backing the Inside Travel Group team for the next stage of growth. We have got to know the team over the years and have been incredibly impressed with how they have scaled the team across three continents and built a strong culture even with the backdrop of Covid. Our consumer insight work shows that the market size for Asia-focused travel is large and growing quickly. Travellers are more than ever seeking out trusted destination specialist travel brands. ITG are experts in this area, thought leaders in cultural adventures, who deliver industry-leading satisfaction levels among clients and high levels of word-of-mouth recommendations.’ Read more about the investment here - https://lnkd.in/eQ-9XSiU

For the fourth episode of season 6 of the Piper podcast, How I Grew My Brand, Mary Nightingale sat down with Anjum Anand and Adarsh Sethia, husband and wife co-founders of the authentic Asian meal kits brand, The Spice Tailor Limited. They exited the business in 2022, selling to Premier Foods. Now removed from the day-to-day, they have a perspective on their experience that only comes with distance. After a 10-year journey, they feel pride in their accomplishment. As they should, having grown the business to £17m with a curated range of 27 products across all the major supermarkets. The brand saw particular success internationally, with around half the sales coming from Australia and Canada. Hear the full story and all their insights in the podcast, available on all major podcast players. We hope you enjoy, and we will be back with a new series next year. https://lnkd.in/esyUR9rU

When our partner brand, Turtle Bay Restaurants, told us they were trialling a 4 day working week for managers and kitchen teams we were excited and hopeful that the goals would be achieved. Now, four years later, the results are undeniable - increased stability, highter engagement and better work life balance. A win for the business and their teams alike.
🌟Hospitality Reimagined: The 4-Day Working Week🌟 Let's face it—hospitality has long had a reputation for poor work-life balance. Our managers and chefs felt it too, and we knew something had to change. That’s why, back in 2020, we created our ‘4 Days at the Bay’ working model, aiming to create a better rota system for our salaried management and kitchen teams to work 4 days a week. The goal? To have the right people in the right place at the right time, whilst improving work-life balance, consistency, and business performance. After trialling it, the results spoke for themselves. 📈 ✅ Increased stability ✅ Higher team engagement ✅ Better work-life balance. By 2024, all salaried managers and kitchen teams were on the 4 Days at the Bay model. We are proud to share that management stability as of September 2024 is at 82%, and our engagement survey results have hit an all-time high of 87.3% (with an 84% participation rate😉) 🎉 This isn’t to say we’ve perfected it, but if you’re in a decision-making role on the ways of working within a hospitality company, it’s something worth exploring. Get in touch if you want to know more, we would like to share our knowledge and learning to help drive positive change in our industry. And if you’re a manager looking for a role where balance and satisfaction matter, join us at the Bay. 🐢👋 One love, Kayleigh Micklethwaite Head of HR & Recruitment
