As the festive party season is in full swing, it's essential for employers to recognise that company Christmas parties are considered an extension of the workplace. This means that both employers and employees can be held accountable for any misconduct that occurs during these events. Studies report that one in five employees have witnessed inappropriate behaviour at a work Christmas party, ranging from minor etiquette breaches to serious incidents. To ensure a joyful and incident-free celebration, here are some key considerations: 🎄 Employer Liability: Employers may be held vicariously liable for employees' actions during work-related events, including Christmas parties. 🎄 Employee Conduct: Employees should be aware that inappropriate behaviour at such events can lead to disciplinary action, including dismissal. 🎄 Preventative Measures: Implementing clear policies and providing guidance on acceptable behaviour during work-related social events can help mitigate risks. By proactively addressing these aspects, employers can foster a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees, ensuring that the holiday season remains festive and free from workplace disputes. But if you do find yourselves with an issue to resolve, then PRS can help! #PeopleManagement #HR #HumanResources #EmployerLiability #ChristmasParties

Should parents get more flexibility at this festive time of year? A great article from Powered By Diversity looking at all sides of this debate...

Is offering more flex for your parent employees at this time of year annoying your other employees? This is the article for you: https://lnkd.in/dJ92k8xu We put this customer question to our Collective of over 200 experts: 💬 We have a number of parents in our workforce and at this time of year, there are a lot of commitments all happening at once. 🤸♀️ This requires us to be super flexible with parents, which we always are. 😡 In the past, the non-parents have been really understanding but this year, two new team members (who are not parents) have said that they think it is unfair and they would like the same level of flexibility for themselves. 🏢 One's job can be done entirely flexibly so that's not such an issue - but the other's role definitely requires them to be in the office at certain times. ❗ I also suspect that they are just saying it to prove a point, which I don't think shows team spirit or support for their colleagues - and to be honest it's annoyed me. How would you recommend I approach this situation? Read our Collective's responses here: https://lnkd.in/dJ92k8xu and don't forget to put your own POV in comments. Thanks to our contributors: Charlotte Speak, Solène Anglaret, Virginia Méndez Mesón, Amit Singh Kalley and Cynthia Fortlage Lisa Cater plus Clare Willetts, Lee Chambers, Toria King, MusicFootballFatherhood and Jessica Heagren, who I feel will definitely have Ps Of V to add! Image description: The image below is a rectangle with the Powered By Diversity logo and the headline "FAIR FLEX". Underneath is text which asks "Should parents get more flexibility at this time of year? Or is that unfair?". Standing on either side of the text are two groups of two people in work attire, each looking at each other with negative facial expressions. There is a person on the far right throwing their hands up in exasperation.

Office Christmas parties... in the afternoon? If you're having one this year, we'd love to know how you're planning your party and whether you're making any changes to ensure they're inclusive for all your staff.

Don't hold your Christmas party at night. Hold it during working hours - in the afternoon. Afternoon parties are so much better for team members who - Have kids - Live far from the party location - Prefer a less boozy vibe At Koru Kids we switched from having our Christmas party in the evening, to having it in the afternoon. - We have alcohol for those who want to drink, but it's fine also to avoid it - We have an evening 'after-party' for those who want to keep hanging out, but it's totally optional The plan feels so much more inclusive and joyous now!
