Do you consider the climate crisis in your workplace? 🌎 According to the World Meteorological Organisation, 2024 is on track to be the hottest year on record. As sea levels continue to rise and extreme weather conditions worsen, there is no hiding from the drastic effects of climate change. But what can you and your workplace do to help? Dr Johan Rockström, Director, PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, believes that we can restore our earth if we all become stewards of the planet. “Irrespective of where we live, irrespective of what scale we operate in, irrespective of what sector we’re in, we must now connect entirely to the planet as a whole.” Discover the science behind saving our planet by watching Dr Rockström’s keynote from #OYW24: https://bit.ly/3YOz35W #OneYoungWorld #ClimateCrisis #ClimateStewardship #Keynote #Counsellor

How can we protect Indigenous youth from institutionalisation? At 10-years-old Vanessa Turnbull-Roberts was forcibly removed from her home. 16 years later, she advocates for and protects the voices of Indigenous youth through her role as Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People. In just six months, Vanessa has supported 55 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children who have been directly impacted by state-sanctioned child removal, intervened in adoptions without consent, and supported young people trying to access bail from incarceration. “I stand here in solidarity for those who have been taken from us as a symbol of our ongoing fight for justice.” Learn more about Vanessa's extraordinary work by watching her full speech from #OYW24: https://bit.ly/48JhDvP

Do we have enough Indigenous voices in our political system? There are an estimated 476 million Indigenous Peoples spread across 70 countries, but there are less than 1,000 Indigenous MPs in the world. Indigenous communities have fought colonialism, lack of access to healthcare, landlessness, ethnocide and so many other atrocities. Political representation of Indigenous Peoples is crucial for preserving historic cultures and traditions and addressing historical and ongoing injustices. Meaningful representation will enable young Indigenous voices to be part of decisions that affect their communities, fostering policies that support responsible environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation. In this panel, Kimberly Teehee, Audrey Poitras, Senator Michèle Audette, @hana-rawhiti and @iliacalderon, discuss how they started their careers and how the global community can support Indigenous voices. We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Senator Murray Sinclair, former Anishinaabe judge, senator, lawyer, chair of the Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and One Young World Counsellor. His work has reshaped Canada’s legal system and has been detrimental in ensuring that nobody forgets the horrors that Indigenous peoples faced in residential schools. In this blog, we reflect on Senator Murray Sinclair's incredible legacy of work, including his time at the One Young World Summit in Ottawa.
