Oddbox needs your vote! We're in with a chance to win Sky's Local Hero grant, as part of their Zero Footprint fund. The grant recognises businesses who are committed to building a more sustainable future in, and for, their community - and that's something we're always striving for. If you can spare a moment, please vote for us right here: https://bit.ly/3Bc4orn. The grant would make a huge difference in our fight against food waste, so that we can do more good for our planet, one peculiar parsnip at a time. Voting closes today (4th December), so there's no time like the present. Thank you, and happy cooking.

Is that the sound of a ghoul? Demon? Spirit? Nope, it’s us booing the huge waste of Halloween. Around 18,000 tonnes of pumpkins are thrown away in the UK each year – food that could, and should, be eaten. But isn’t that what pumpkins are for? Well, being used as a jack o’lantern or fairy-tale carriage is just a side hustle for our gourd friends. Pumpkins are a type of squash, and even the ones unhelpfully labelled ‘carving pumpkins’ are absolutely delicious. Seeds, stringy bits, flesh and all. #oddbox #oddisgood #halloween #zerowaste #lowwaste #farming #foodwaste

Pear growers, we need you – and we need you now! Thanks to lower crop yields and higher customer demand, we’re facing a significant shortage of UK pears this season. We’ve been searching high and low for solutions, including reaching out to industry leaders, and things are still looking pretty pear-shaped. We’ve exhausted our local options, but we haven’t given up just yet. We’re hoping to avoid importing rescued fruit from the EU this early in the season, so we need your help. If you are a commercial pear grower, or know someone who is, please get in touch at [email protected] – we’d love to hear from you. Let’s work together to support local growers and UK farms, and keep the supply chain strong.

We came, we cooked, we failed to convince anyone. Hats off if you tried our hypnosis videos, affirmations and recipes for haters – it was worth a go, hey? But if you’re one of the 73% of people who have tried and failed to change your mind about your most disliked fruit and veg, our pick-your-own boxes are for you. Swap each item for something you prefer on the list. Rescue more of what you love. And never see another aubergine, mushroom or stick of celery again (except here, sorry). #oddbox #oddisgood #ooh #vegetables #fruits #zerowaste #lowwaste #farming

🍏🍎 Happy National Apple Day from Oddbox🍎🍏 We love supporting brilliant British apple growers. Did you know that in 2023, a whopping 89% of the apples in your Oddbox were grown right here in the UK? That’s a huge leap compared to the national average of just 38.8% in 2020.🌳🇬🇧 Early in the season, we get to share some of the more unusual, tasty varieties like Raspberry Ripple, Early Windsor, and Estivale. 🍂 As the harvest continues, you'll see more popular apples like Royal Gala and Braeburn - but our growers are always experimenting with exciting new varieties to keep things fresh. 🚜🍎 At Oddbox, we’re all about rescuing fruit, celebrating local produce, and keeping food waste off the table. 💚 #AppleDay #SupportBritishFarmers #SustainableFarming #Oddbox #GrownNotFlown #FoodWasteWarriors #EatTheSeasons

🥗 This week you’ve helped us rescue 155,522kg of fruit and veg – that’s some mighty fine work. Here are some highlights: 🍆 We rescued 3,150kg of aubergines that were rejected by supermarkets for being "too small." 🍇 Retailers turned down 1,140kg of persimmons, so we stepped in and found homes for them. 🥗 An oversupply of cavolo nero overwhelmed supermarkets, so we stepped in to save the surplus. What’s the star fruit or veg in your box this week? Which one made you smile? Let us know in the comments. #RescueMission #Oddbox #OddIsGood #TooOdd #TooMany

Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be well-seasoned. Today’s affirmations are for the beetroot haters – yes, the ones among you who told us beetroot tastes like ‘mud and regret’. Breathe in. Breathe out. Then pick what’s in your box and banish your most hated forever. #oddbox #oddisgood #beetroot #hateveg #vegetables #vegetarian #lowwaste #zerowaste

Limes - Can you guess why these zesty little guys needed rescuing? Pop your guesses in the comments and check below for the big reveal. #oddbox #oddisgood #lime #guesstherescue #zerowaste #lowwaste . . . . . . . . . We’ve rescued almost 2,000 kilos of limes from our Brazilian grower this week, after supermarkets declared them “too odd”. Apparently those limes “aren’t green enough”! Limes continue ripening after they’re harvested, turning their skin yellow. Thanks to delays at sea, they were delayed arriving at supermarkets, and turned up “too yellow” to go on shelves. You might find some in your box, or you might have picked some up as an add-on – they’re deliciously fresh and zesty, so we didn’t want them to go to waste. Our community constantly shows their true colours: they’re always ready to rescue fruit which needs their help.
