Online meetings are great and make a lot of sense when you're a partnership of six universities, but once in a while it's great to get everyone together 'in real life'. And at today's partnership meeting at Durham University it was great to get the team together to celebrate our recent award, having been crowned Place-based Knowledge Exchange Initiative of the Year at the Knowledge Exchange UK (formerly Praxis Auril) awards 2024. It was extra special to be joined by Tim Hammond, almost a year after retiring. Tim was one of Northern Accelerator's founders, beginning and leading the partnership we have today. We're over the moon to be awarded Place-based KE Initiative of the Year 2024 at the PraxisAuril KE Awards 2024! This category means a lot to us as Northern Accelerator has always had at it's core a mission to grow the innovation ecosystem in the North East and North Yorkshire. To date we’ve launched over 50 businesses, many based in regional innovation hubs like Newcastle Helix and Durham’s NETPark, establishing a programme that puts the North East and North Yorkshire on the map as a thriving innovation spinout ecosystem, outside of the golden triangle. Looking forward to celebrating and networking with our knowledge exchange colleagues from across the country tonight. What a fantastic session at the latest monthly meet of our Spinout Leaders' Network earlier this week, looking at The Four Foundations of Effective Marketing with Bryony Thomas. Our academic founders and executive leaders of spinout businesses benefitted hugely from this session and Bryony's engaging style will certainly help the key messages stick safely in our memories! (We've likened things to herding cats before... but now we're firmly focussed on stealing cats!) It's great to see the network increasingly supporting each other and beginning to share connections and lessons, as well as of course learning from our fantastic line-up of speakers at our monthly events.
