We were honoured to participate in the #AgeingForum by Openstreams Foundation at the United Nations, where experts explored science, #research, and #beauty in the context of #longevity. Our sincere thanks to Lan Vu for the invitation, Dr Nadine Pernodet, Melis del Rey, and Qian Zheng for their valuable insights, and Michele Superchi for moderating. This event went beyond knowledge-sharing, fostering meaningful connections and redefining beauty’s role in a longevity-focused society. We look forward to the release of the official report in January. #AgeingIntelligence

The true privilege of my work is being able to meet many people, some of whom are exceptional, like my co-panellists today at the insightful event - the #AgingForum - organised by Openstreams Foundation at the United Nations. We discussed #science and #research in #beauty and life in all its fascinating, challenging complexity. All of this was made possible thanks to the professional, cultural, and personal richness of the outstanding Dr Nadine Pernodet, Melis del Rey, and #QianZheng, and the moderation by Michele Superchi, whom I thank for the invitation along with the unique Lan Vu. I left this discussion enriched in a way that rarely happens to me. Did I learn things I didn't know? Yes, of course, as always, but today something more important happened. It's that thing that sometimes is impossible to explain: it's called chemistry - either it's there or it isn't. And today, it was definitely there. It's pointless for me to tell you what we talked about because it will be published in a report at the end of January and because, even if I tried, I wouldn't be able to describe the thousand nuances that made this day one to remember. And I hope it helps generate what we were all here for: contextualizing the concept of beauty in a longevity society, highlighting the multiple innovations that underpin its current and future trajectory, and giving it an interpretation free from the stereotypes of industry, communication, and morality. 🌳 I don't know how or when it will bloom, but I'm confident we planted a seed today. #ageingintelligence #healthylongevity UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing BEAUTYSTREAMS

UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing reposted this
I am on my way to contribute to the discussion on the definition of beauty in a #longevitysociety at the 2nd edition of the #OpenstreamsGlobalBeautyIndustrySummit at the United Nations Headquarters in #NY. The beauty industry is uniquely positioned to lead a positive shift in society’s perceptions of ageing. It holds a key responsibility and opportunity to accelerate the development and adoption of new, non-ageist and non-demagogic narratives that sustain who we are and who we are becoming throughout our life-stages. “The Aging Forum” will unite beauty industry leaders for open exchange. The results of this debate will be published in 2025. Thanks to Michele Superchi and all the staff at Openstreams Foundation for involving me in the discussion. #ageingintelligence

“If I want to unwind, all I have to do is pick up the pillow,” says Norma, a skilled #LaceMaker with decades of experience. For Norma, lace-making is more than just a #craft, it’s a way to relax, connect with others, and share her passion. We met Norma at the Beamish Museum in the #NorthEast of the UK, where she often creates her intricate designs. We asked her what keeps her devoted to this age-old art. In a world increasingly dominated by technology, the importance of traditional, hands-on skills is greater than ever. For Stephen, a skilled #blacksmith, these skills are more than just a craft—they are a cherished family legacy. “My grandfather was a blacksmith, and he taught my father. My father taught me, and now I’m teaching my daughter,” he shares, reflecting on a tradition that has been passed down in his family for over 100 years. Check out the double-page interview our Director, 🐨 Nicola Palmarini, gave about #design, #cities, and #longevity in the latest December issue of #Interni Magazine. 👇 #AgeingIntelligence

🤳 It's rather self-congratulatory 🤳 , but I can't deny it's gratifying to find myself in the pages of #Interni, "the" magazine that has been chronicling #Italiandesign for 70 years and that I've always considered a beacon illuminating our future. Thanks to the brilliant Maddalena Padovani and Paolo Casicci for involving me in this fascinating discussion about #design, #cities and #longevity. As I mentioned - design can be the best walking stick for older age, but designing for a #longevitysociety means going well beyond planning handrails or Zimmer frames: it means reversing the paradigm and thinking in terms of systems rather than emergencies. We must work with today's youth to have healthy older adults tomorrow. Although longevity is a widely known trend, and today, it has started to occupy the headlines of journals, it is already time to unhinge its current perception and dynamics by addressing its - fundamental - social relevance. We need to be able to read a growing portfolio of outstanding research, avoiding the extravagances of billionaires and a community of zealous followers chasing one conference after another, all sharing a rather individualistic view of the subject. This is fine: we all age differently and have individual longevity trajectories. However, we urgently need a political and social vision of longevity. A democratic vision of it, which semantically already seems a paradox. A planet with a progressive (and irreversible?) decline in fertility needs the (few) young people who will inhabit it tomorrow to stay healthy as long as possible to sustain tomorrow's growth and, ça va sans dire, an ageing society. Healthy longevity concerns us all. Those working on longevity aim to involve today's and tomorrow's mothers and children beyond the first 1000 days from conception. This should be the objective of the design of services, objects, narratives, and cities. Hence, a #cityoflongevity shouldn't just accommodate older adults but rather support everyone to develop lifestyle practices that stimulate and promote healthy longevity and its simple, basic implementation that starts from our daily behaviours and a more equitable society, with education and decent economic conditions at the 🔝 of the agenda. Nothing new, yet here lies the actual revolution and the suggested need to hack the current misinterpretation, progressively switching from longevity to #healthylongevity. We'll focus on that with the visionary Marco Sammicheli, with whom I'll co-curate the thematic cluster dedicated to longevity at the next #Design #Triennale #2025. #ageingintelligence
