As research into how neurodivergent people experience menopause continues, organisations can take steps right now to help support these colleagues. 🤝 Funded by the Menopause Friendly Employer Awards and conducted by researchers at Bournemouth University, the raft of research projects seeks to unpick both the experiences of neurodivergent people at menopause and the ways they can be supported. Dr Rachel Moseley and Ms Eunhee Kim gave us some background into their research and findings so far, as well as some tips for employers to consider: 💡 https://lnkd.in/ek3d-b25 #Neurodiversity #Diversity #Menopause #Neurodivergent #MenopauseResearch #Equality

Can women start HRT over sixty or later if they want to protect their health and bone density? There’s good news for older women in a new paper in The Lancet challenging the arbitrary limit to starting HRT to a 10-year window around menopause. After reassessing the research, Prof Susan Davies and team said, ‘we propose that the recommendations regarding the initiation of MHT (Menopausal Hormone Therapy) need to change to be more inclusive of women outside these chronological limits. ‘ In particular, they cited the fact that HRT helps prevent osteoporosis, and it’s not being given right now to older women - a message we’re trying to change with the Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace #giveyourbonesabreak campaign. They concluded: ‘Transdermal MHT also increases bone mineral density and reduces bone turnover after menopause and, in large observational studies, reduces fracture risk. Denial of MHT based solely on age or years since menopause might leave many who who cannot tolerate or access bone-specific medications without effective therapy.’ ‘While acknowledging that no pharmacotherapy is without some risk, given the availability of safer MHT preparations, including transdermal and ultra-low dose oral oestradiol preparations, progesterone, and other progestogens, we propose that the recommendations regarding the initiation of MHT need to change.’ Tell your friends, tell your GP. Half of women break a bone over 50, and they need to know HRT can help, The paper is not open access but doctors will be able to use the link: Lancet Diabetes Endocrinol 2024 Published Online October 14, 2024 https://doi.org/10.1016/ S2213-8587(24)00270-5
