One such project was the new Calma Lounge chair designed by LAYER for Spanish furniture brand Andreu World. The reclining Calma Lounge chair is an expansion of the popular Calma range of task chairs designed by LAYER for Andreu World in 2022. The soft, pillowed design language further emphasises the signature cocooning form of the collection, creating a comfortable retreat in the workplace or home. This week, we’re looking back at some of the furniture and lighting projects designed by LAYER  in 2024 – beginning with the Press Chair for MDF Italia. The Press Chair – which is made from an innovative 3D-Veneer timber – features contoured lines balanced by a comforting form to ensure timeless appeal. This approach not only showcases the three-dimensional capabilities of 3D-Veneer but creates additional comfort for the user with a pillowed seat form. It has integrated AI and machine learning that pairs with an intuitive app. Over time, it learns its driver’s interests and routes, eventually becoming autonomous. Last year, LAYER collaborated with leading crypto brand Ledger to design and engineer Stax – a revolutionary hardware wallet that allows users to securely store, access, and send cryptocurrency and NFTs. Connectivity Concept is a family of smart telecom products designed by LAYER in collaboration with Deutsche Telekom Design and Customer Experience. The collection comprises six products – a router, mesh repeater, soundbar with webcam, set-top box, and remote – each crafted from tactile materials that challenge the conventions of tech design. Last month, iconic Danish brand Muuto showcased the Strand pendant and table lamps, designed by LAYER, at leading commercial design fair ORGATEC Cologne. The Strand collection features a finely crafted steel frame covered with an innovative cocooning material, creating a soft, inviting glow. Ambient lighting is a key consideration in improving workplace comfort and productivity, and the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the Strand collection is ideal for cosy meeting spaces and break-outs – as seen in the scenes at the Muuto ORGATEC stand!
