  • Big thanks to our team for digging deep and bringing in their donations for the Trussell foodbank. According to Trussell, winter is the busiest time for food banks in its community. Last winter, 600,000 food parcels were distributed to people facing hunger and poverty, and it expects this year to be just as challenging as more people struggle to afford even the essentials at this expensive time of year. If you're inspired to make a contribution of food and other household essentials, you can find locations here (and you can also donate money): https://lnkd.in/eg2X88r3 #Trussell #foodbank

  • Mince pie for breakfast? Don’t mind if we do. This Mince Pie Monday, we are testing the delights of The Underground Bakery on Call Lane in Leeds. Our professional testers have scored them out of five in the following categories: Looks - 4 out of 5 “rustic” Pastry - 5 out of 5 Filling - 4.5 out of 5 “incredible” Pastry to filling ratio - 5 out of 5 “It was lovely. I enjoyed it” said Matthew Parker “Best mince pie I’ve ever had in my life” said Jade Brooke Howson “Deceptively light” said Claire Anderson Sadly our team members with nut allergies missed out on these due to their almond content. Something to keep in mind. Have you eaten any delicious homemade mince pies this year? #mincepiemonday #officetreats #festivefun #team #Leedsbusiness

  • The rise of hybrid working was a silver lining to the pandemic – many companies realised their workers could be trusted to work from home (and keep their businesses ticking over in the process). Companies that are making headlines by “cutting hybrid working as part of a business restructure”, and ordering staff back to the office five days a week from January, may believe they're recreating the 'glory days', but we think times have changed - for good. Read more on our approach and opinions on hybrid working. What do you think? #hybridworking #remoteworking #WFH

  • It's Mince Pie Monday. The most wonderful day of the week. Today we treated ourselves to homemade pies from Laynes, one of our favourite independent coffee shops and bakeries in the centre of Leeds. And they didn't disappoint. The scores are in... Appearance – 3 Pastry - taste - 4 Filling - taste - 4 Pastry to filling ratio – 3 Unofficial mince pie expert, Matthew Parker, said: "Because they’re handmade they were all different. Some could have done with a little more filling."   Official mince pie taster, Rachel Ekins, said: "You can really tell the difference to shop-bought ones in a good way – the filling was chunky and tasty." Get yourself over to Laynes, 16 New Station Street, to try them (and one of the best coffees in town) for yourselves. Stay tuned for our next homemade mince pie review next Monday. #mincepiemonday #Leeds #independentbusiness #greatcoffee #greatbakes

Last week we asked you which generation is most likely to be caught out by telephone scams. 7% of you voted for Gen Z which was correct 👏 A poll of 2,000 adults revealed adults under 27 are also likely to be caught out by online shopping scams, while Boomers are most likely to fall for phishing emails and texts.  One in five Millennials have been caught out by general phishing scams – with emails, calls and texts all posing a threat.  Gareth Pindred, our Head of Fraud at Virgin Money said “While the results vary between generations, the findings have shown lots of people get caught out, despite an increased amount of awareness of and education about scams. You shouldn’t feel ashamed if you’re caught out. The landscape of online fraud continues to shift and we take every step possible to help consumers feel safe and provide advice on how to stay protected”. Want to read more? • IT’S MINCE PIE MONDAY. Nothing beats a home cooked mince pie, so we’ve decided to review our favourite seasonal treats from local independent bakeries and coffee shops in Leeds (aren’t we nice?). First up. These beauties from The Clubhouse Coffee on St. Paul’s Street in Leeds. Appearance: 4 out of 5 Pastry taste: 4.5 out of 5 Filling taste: 4 out of 5 Pastry to filling ratio: 4 out of 5 Matthew Pickin said “it’s the best mince pie I’ve ever seen”. Sinclair E. said “the pastry is more like shortbread - I like it”. These pies are actually made offsite at Moin Moin Artisan Bakers in Ilkley, but that’s local and homemade enough for us. Stay tuned for our Mince Pie Monday review next week. Who’s your favourite mince pie maker? #mincepies #mincepiemondays #Leeds
