Ahead of the festive break, we are delighted to officially launch the 2025 HFS awards! 🏠 🏆 With Homes for Scotland marking its 25th anniversary in 2025, our awards showcase the best in class from across our varied membership and will have extra resonance as we look to celebrate and recognise our sector’s continued and critical contribution to Scotland’s social and economic growth. This year’s refreshed programme focuses on our customers, the communities in which we work and the commitment of all those involved day in, day out in delivering much needed homes across all tenures. 25 years on since HFS was established, our awards programme provides the opportunity to clearly illustrate to all our wider stakeholders that home building really is a force for good and we look forward to receiving a range of entries by the deadline of 7 February. Today’s housing statistics unfortunately show that the damage of last year’s cuts to the Housing Budget simply cannot be undone overnight, with both starts and completions across all sectors continuing what is becoming an all too familiar trend of decline. Whilst the restoration of the Affordable Housing Supply Programme next year is, of course to be welcomed, the sector urgently needs to see the Scottish Government match next years financial commitment to housing with an urgent and interventionist approach to a regulatory and policy environment which currently only serves to slow rather than accelerate housing delivery across all tenures, as well as suppressing the growth of our sector, especially that of SME home builders. The Scottish Government must progress its Planning and Housing Emergency Delivery Plan at the pace necessitated by a national housing emergency, with urgent clarity required on how the newly proposed Housing Planning Hub will get the c.7,000 new homes across all tenures (as reported by our members) which have been stalled during 2024 moving again. The sector also requires equal clarity on the outcome of key national consultations (such as the Building Safety Levy and Accessible Homes Standard) which have the potential to considerably increase costs of new homes. As ever, HFS and its members stand ready to play their part in increasing the supply of high-quality, energy efficient and affordable homes across all tenures to tackle the housing emergency and provide their crucial expertise on how Scotland’s regulatory framework can deliver rather than block the new homes so desperately needed by Scotland’s people. #deliveringmore #alltenure #homesforscotland
