  • 📣 With one week to go until eligibility for this year’s #WinterFuelPayment (WFP) ends, please do a final push with any pension age clients, family or friends you think may be entitled to claim #PensionCredit (PC).   Numbers of people claiming PC have improved since the WFP changes were announced in July, with applications up by 145%, but over 700,000 are still deemed to be eligible but not claiming.   Our benefits calculator will quickly help people check all the benefits they may be entitled to, including highlightling the Winter Fuel Payment deadline with the panel below.   👉 Try it: https://lnkd.in/gVKzkPu

    • Sample panel from the entitledto benefits calculator with text that says "Act now if you're not already claiming Pension Credit. If you make a new claim for Pension Credit before 21 December you will also continue to receive the Winter Fuel Payment this winter. The Winter Fuel Payment is an annual tax-free payment of £200 or £300 depending on your household. In the past it has been paid to all people over pension credit age but from this winter it will only be paid to people receiving certain means-tested benefits, including Pension Credit. See Winter Fuel Payment for further details."
  • If you're following the Managed Migration of Universal Credit you will want to read Child Poverty Action Group UK's latest 'Beneath the trends' report - a detailed look at the issues facing claimants going through managed migration It's the final report in CPAG's series closely monitoring how the migration has been going over the past few years. As usual, it provides a sobering look at the issues, as well as listing some sensible recommendations. This casestudy stood out for us at entitledto, as we head into the expanding migration of ESA claimants from February next year: "The prospect of moving to UC triggered suicidal thoughts in the claimant. Fearing that she would soon lose all her income, she bought a tent and some potatoes so she and her daughter could survive if they became homeless." Most of entitledto has been on a team social this afternoon. Our cooking skills were tested as we created a six course meal to share at the wonderful Migrateful cookery school in London. Even if we do say so ourselves, the food was delicious, mostly thanks to our teacher Meriam and all the staff at Migrateful. Such a super, social way to end the week!

  •   This Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, it’s the perfect time to remind people they could still receive the £200/£300 Winter Fuel Payment this winter. Payments to eligible households started on Monday so will be in at least 1.3 million bank accounts soon, but around 760,000 still need to claim. 📣 Anyone entitled to Pension Credit will get the Winter Fuel Payment (and maybe other benefits too) if they claim before 21 December 📣 Check now: https://lnkd.in/dfEgAz2 or share with others #FuelPovertyAwarenessDay

    • A hand holding a loud speaker with text that says "Claim Pension Credit by 21 December and you could get an extra £200 or £300 on top. Check now to see if you’re entitled! The small print: Anyone who’s eligible for Pension Credit in the qualifying week of 16-22 Sep 2024 can backdate their claim and still get the Winter Fuel Payment this winter."

📢 The latest ‘Move to Universal Credit’ statistics were released by the DWP this morning. We’re still looking into the detail in Stat Explore but, overall, we’re pleased to see they show a much greater success rate for people moving onto UC from DWP benefits than from tax credits (1). 📊 As previous statistics have shown, a third of households claiming tax credits only (with no other means-tested benefit) have failed to move on to UC (we call this the ‘close rate’). In contrast, the ‘close rate’ for people claiming tax credits with a means-tested benefit is 5%, with 95% successfully moving onto UC. 📊 It's more difficult to draw conclusions about people moving onto UC from DWP benefits (without any tax credits) as this stage of the managed migration process is only now getting into full swing. The best data relates to people who received a managed migration notice more than four months ago, who have therefore been all the way through the process, so numbers are still small. 📊 However, so far, the overall close rate for this group is 4%, which is in line with DWP’s planning assumption. This rate varies a little between different benefits, with a lower close rate when Housing Benefit is being claimed and a higher close rate where there is no Housing Benefit. 📊 It's still too early to tell what is going on with moving Employment and Support Allowance claimants to UC, as only 680 people have been all the way through the process. The close rate so far for this group is 5%, but we’ll have to wait for more data to really tell. 🤔 With the most vulnerable groups any interruption in a benefit claim is of course worrying. We will therefore be looking into how we can support our organisational clients manage the final stages of the Move to UC process now the new government has stated it will stick to the current migration timetable. -- (1) We used data from the 'MtUC Individuals 8 - Overall claim vs no claim by legacy benefit' table from Stat Explore in the post above.
