We are a local network of volunteers supporting our communities in Merton, Wandsworth and Kingston to fight poverty.
About us
Dons Local Action Group is a local network of volunteers who have been working tirelessly since March 2020 to fight the effects of poverty in Southwest London. What started as a small number of AFC Wimbledon fans responding to the Covid-19 pandemic, quickly gathered pace as the community corralled behind the cause. With almost 3000 registered volunteers, the organisation is a permanent presence across Merton, Kingston and Wandsworth. Our activities are centred around food, furniture and digital poverty. We collect and redistribute food and household items, as well as refurbish donated laptops for children without access to online learning through our Keep Kids Connected campaign. To achieve all this, Dons Local Action Group relies entirely on charitable donations. You can donate food, home and personal care products, furniture, appliances and laptops. You can also support us through our JustGiving page. To learn more about how to donate or to volunteer with us visit our website. Thank you!

Our volunteers were joined by two of AFC Wimbledon’s men’s first team yesterday, James Furlong and Isaac Ogundere. The players were amazed to see how much our volunteers do to support the local community. James said: “it was was my first time helping out at Dons Local Action Group and it’s been a real eye opener into the amount of work that goes into the community. It’s important to recognise the hard work DLAG puts in to help people’s lives. They give up so much of their time to organise all of this and it was great to see how welcoming everyone was at the Hub.” Isaac agreed: “The day has opened my eyes to what great work the volunteers are doing. It is well organised by Craig Wellstead and Tim Marshall who make me feel welcome and the volunteers welcome when we come to help at the hub. I love helping out as it makes me realise how many people DLAG are supporting.” #communityimpact #volunteering

The Power of Social Sport: SLY DOG RUM helps raise £95,000 with Dons Local Action Group We were very excited to support the recent Dons Local Action Group Charity Sports Gala Dinner - the group's main fundraiser. The auction and raffle raised a WHOPPING £95,000 to help support the charity in their quest to help fight the effects of food, furniture and tech poverty in South West London with local and social sports teams as a focal point. The SLY DOG Team put together the prize of a trip to the Hensol Castle Distillery for a SLY DOG Spiced Rum Experience, a stay in the wonderful The Vale Resort Hotel and tickets to the Wales vs England Six Nations Game in March. I'm incredibly happy to say our prize raised £5,000 in the live auction. Dons Local Action Group have helped to provide 6.5 million meals, 3,700 laptops and 1000s of items of furniture since they launched in March 2020. They are run by an army of volunteers, with over 1100 active this year, and SLY DOG RUM were delighted to be able to contribute to their cause. Thanks to Xavier Wiggins, BEM for all of his hard work, Dai Wakely and Hensol Castle for their help in organising the prize and all of the people who attended the event for their generosity and support.

Almost one week after our gala and while I'm super proud of the amount we managed to raise for Dons Local Action Group I can't help but think of everything we have achieved in almost 5 years since the first lockdown back in 2020. Last Thursday I met amazing people who also want to change the world. But volunteering for DLAG gave me friends for life 💙💛 Let's continue to change the world and make it a better place (no need to wear heels for that 😅) #GalaDLAG #fundraising #charity #volunteering #supportingthecommunity #fightingfoodpoverty #bethechange #london #southwestlondon #merton #kingston #wandsworth Sinead Dineen Victoria Swaysland Kate Hopper Meena Pabla Hollie Power Melissa Langlands Xavier Wiggins, BEM Stuart Swords Mark Swords Alex Hughes Craig Wellstead

So we are deeply proud of our relationship with AFC Wimbledon and honoured to be recognised once again among such big and impressive names. Our volunteers just keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible, so this award is most definitely for them." Huge congratulations to all of our volunteers and supporters 💛💙
