🚀 MEED 2024: Pioneering the Future of Economic Evaluation in HealthTech 🚀 On November 28th, we hosted #MEED2024 in person in Newcastle city centre. Despite the weather, we had over 90 attendees, including key stakeholders from #NICE, #DHSC, and leading health economists. Our gathering proved to be a pivotal moment for innovation and thought leadership in the field of economic evaluation for diagnostics, devices, digital solutions, and data. 🧬💡 As we navigate the future of healthcare, innovations are increasingly emphasizing the transition from analogue to digital, moving care closer to home, and shifting from treatment to prevention. #NICE remains central to assessing the value innovations and methods and processes need to evolve to ensure we can capture the true value these innovations bring to patients and the healthcare system. I was honoured to host a panel discussion on early value assessments which raised essential questions about balancing robust HTA methodology with pragmatic approaches that effectively evaluate the value of emerging healthcare technologies. Key Takeaways: 💡The UK is a vibrant hub for innovating methods for economic evaluation of healthcare technologies. 💡Increasingly, innovations are driving value in healthcare beyond traditional metrics, necessitating evolution in both processes and methodologies. 💡Collaboration between NICE, committees, external assessment groups, and industry before and during early value assessments is key and this indicates that not only methods need to evolve but processes too. The landscape of economic evaluation is transforming. It's a thrilling time to be part of this space🌟 Thank you to all our speakers, panelists and audience members alike! To all the health economists and methodologists out there – let's continuing driving forward innovation in methodology to meet the healthcare system needs! #HealthcareInnovation #EconomicEvaluation #HealthEconomics #NHS #NICE #DigitalHealth #Diagnostics #MedicalDevices #DataScience #Innovation Alison Smith Sean Gavan Alexander Thompson Diarmuid Coughlan Kile Green Kim Keltie Gurdeep Sagoo Roche Diagnostics UK & Ireland Diagnostics North East

🧪 The UK Health Security Agency has launched the Diagnostics Accelerator which aims to fast-track scalable, new and existing high-impact diagnostic tests for a wider range of pathogens. As part of this, UKHSA will work with industry, academia, NGOs and other government bodies to prioritise the development of tests for pathogens with the greatest pandemic and epidemic potential. As well as scoping out which tests are suitably adaptable to tackle Pathogen X - an an unknown future pathogen with severe pandemic potential - the new, specialist team will also evaluate the efficacy of Mpox lateral flow devices in a pandemic scenario and evaluate different solutions for molecular analysis methods required for diagnosis, pathogen evolution and surveillance. And what an impressive biobank it is 🌟 Looking for high quality, well annotated/data rich clinical samples to support your research? look no further 👇
📣🙌We've got a big biobank and we want to shout about it📣🙌 Over the last couple of years, our Newcastle Hospitals biobank has seen impressive growth, with services expanding to provide access to a wider range of both tissue and liquid samples. The #biobank team collects and stores thousands of clinical samples, which allows us to provide access to support a range of research and trial projects across the globe, aimed at advancing the diagnosis and treatment of many types of conditions and disease. In the last year, the biobank team has: ✔ Recruited around 700 patients to donate. ✔ Released over 1000 samples ✔ Supported 40 research projects in the NHS, academia and industry. Senior scientist and biobank manager Dr Donna Nile (née Hine), has overseen the expansion of the services we're now able to offer, which include: sample types across #infectiousdisease, #autoimmune disorders, #serology (blood), and multiple #oncology specimens. The team is also building how they collect samples prospectively for clients, through closer working with hospital teams and departments to provide a worldwide service. Dr Nile says “New discoveries, innovations and diagnostic tests are essential to ensure doctors and nurses have the best tools to quickly detect disease, and to help shape effective personalised and targeted treatment for patients. “The expansion of the biobank’s activity allows us to support a wider range of projects where we can work in partnership to advance the diagnosis and treatment of illness, enabling better health outcomes.” #clinicalsamples #diagnosticinnovation #clinicalresearch Diagnostics North East British In Vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA) https://lnkd.in/gUQSf5jk
