Really interesting day yesterday at the Developing Business-Aware Academics Event in York. Looks like its shaping up to be a great evidence-led programme. Thought I’d share some of the key takeaways from the expert panellists that really resonated with me and what we are trying to achieve at Skillfluence: 🤝 "Collaboration is key but make sure you have a shared mission, shared values and clear actions" - Alison Truelove 💸  "Resources are always tight both in business and HEIs – no one will do something just because its nice to do – the value an activity brings is key" - Niall Walker   🌍 "Be the change you want to see in the world" - Niall Walker 💡  "Knowledge exchange doesn’t go far enough we must think about knowledge integration and adoption to realise meaningful impact" - Kiran Trehan 🫂  "Partnerships should be everyone’s business" - Kiran Trehan 🍳   And finally "culture eats strategy for breakfast!" - Jason Snape

What a fantastic thought provoking event in York at the beautiful Hospitium Developing Business-Aware Academics with today's sessions being Understanding audience diversity and how to engage accordingly and Championing engagement in a university context with my Durham University colleagues Dr Stephanie A. Scott and Anne Jolly ... for me, the take home ... we have a lot to do in terms of culture change. The Developing Business-Aware Academics team is excited to be in York today for two events exploring the ways that postgraduate and early-career researchers can engage beyond academia with their research. We’re excited to hear from two amazing expert panels this morning about improving engagement from both the industry and academia perspectives, and from a range of PGR and ECR attendees this afternoon about their experiences and insights on industry engagement. 📣 New NCUB report 📣 It was great to hear from the amazing panel of Sam Laidlaw, Jessica Corner, Andrew Jones, Marie-Pierre Paquin, and Rosalind Gill at the launch event of The National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB)'s State of the Relationship 2024 report yesterday. We loved Marie-Pierre Paquin’s emphasis on recognising the benefits of long-term partnerships, beyond simple monetary considerations. Jessica Corner also stressed the importance of industry-supervised PhDs to underpin relationships between universities and industry partners, especially given the increasing financial tensions facing HE institutions. Our key takeaways from the report include: 💡 University-business collaboration is vital to deliver the government’s missions. The report highlights impactful projects kickstarting economic growth, improving Britain’s clean energy infrastructure, and ensuring greater access to research and innovation. 💡 Researcher mobility has been quite one-sided, with an increase in academic staff moving from academia to business, but a decrease in mobility in the other direction. 💡 Our partner GSK’s quote on how collaboration with universities enhances their R&D, including via “fellowship and doctoral training programmes” and "working together on research across GSK’s four areas of therapeutic focus.” Read the report in full here: https://lnkd.in/e9M8kCXp #SoR24
