PLACE Network was proud to co-host an inspiring roundtable on Inclusive Entrepreneurship with UNITEE and The New European on December 12, 2024! 🌟 The discussion featured incredible speakers, including: Manon Acke Moembo from #SheDidIt, sharing how her work is reframing entrepreneurship for diverse women in Belgium. Michelle Amoakoh from AiDiA - Afrodeutscher Startup Pitch , highlighting cultural inclusivity and access to resources for Afro-European founders. Iffat Rose Gill from The Code To Change , addressing barriers faced by tech entrepreneurs from minority backgrounds. Eva Kašperová, a research fellow at the CREME Centre for Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship , discussing how to build trust and foster policy responsiveness for migrant entrepreneurs. Julien De Beys from DG EMPL, European Commission, emphasizing the importance of funding and social entrepreneurship initiatives. Our very own Shawgi Ahmed highlighted the need for collaboration to bridge gaps and foster innovation, reminding us that impactful change requires working together. Thank you to all participants and speakers for such a rich and insightful session, this is only the beginning of creating inclusive ecosystems for entrepreneurship! 🙌
We are delighted to be part of this exciting roundtable on 'Inclusive Enterpreneurship' convened by the UNITEE, PLACE Network and The New European. Some TAKE AWAYS: 🧩 Moving from '#migrantentrepreneurship' to '#inclusiveentrepreneurship' as a new way of engagement through an intersectionality lense was stressed by Vanessa Cotterell. - Manon Acke Moembo experiences with #SheDIDIT, has proven the case - entrepreneurs and also migrant entrepreneurs being framed as primarily male. - Michelle Amoakoh added the cultural dimension to the picture and how the targeted efforts touching on and integrating the cultural specificities for AfroGerman entrepreneurs has paid off. - Iffat Rose Gill highlighted the specific uncertainties for entrepreneurs to enter the IT sector, which is often 'color blind', but highly competitive. 🪧 Eva Kašperová touched on links between the civic #participation and inclusive entrepreneurship - that's a great new way to engage on and with potential and current new EU citizens; 👏 Shawgi Ahmed called on the importance from working in silos to bridging the gaps. He stressed on the #collaboration while recalling how the campaign initiative of the Inclusive entrepreneurship intergroup has been rolled out. 'You can not clap with one hand' as the Arabic proverb goes. 💶 The access to finance was stressed as the key challenge by majority of the participants. Julien De Beys from the DG EMPL highlighted that although 'migrant entrepreneurship' will be less topical for the new commission, more attention will be paid to '#socialentrepreneurship', which also offers a broader framing. He also suggested to follow closely the ESF+ and ESIF funding for such important initiatives. 🍃 Lina Vosyliute inquired about the further links of framings of 'inclusive entrepreneurship' with the sustainability agenda, and even more specifically - #corporatesustainability responsibilities, as there is now a high priority in the EU to engage with the corporate stakeholders in creating and expanding their social impact, including support and engagement with migrant and other entrepreneurs of diverse backgrounds.
