Thrilled to partner with Cyclic Materials on the world’s first end-to-end traceability of rare earth elements (REEs)! Traceability is essential when it comes to scaling critical metals recycling technologies, including rare earths, cobalt and copper, given the need to prove responsible, sustainable, and resilient sourcing of these materials. Circulor's PROVE platform collates granular production, traceability, and carbon emissions data from Cyclic Materials’ facilities to create digital product passports (DPPs) for recycled REEs. This provides proof of recycled content specifics and origin of the materials to automotive, renewable energy, and consumer electronics customers. Rare Earth Transparency is an Economic Imperative. Thanks to Waste360 for featuring Circulor’s collaboration with Cyclic Materials to implement the world’s first end-to-end traceability of REEs. REEs are vital ingredients to critical infrastructure, especially amid the urgent shift to clean energy technologies. Ensuring these supplies are resilient, reliable, and sustainable requires innovative recycling solutions, like those pioneered by Cyclic Materials, combined with material traceability. Our partnership sets a new standard for transparent REE recycling that demonstrates a shift toward more responsible sourcing. It provides automotive, renewable energy, and consumer electronics industries with verifiable proof that the materials they receive from Cyclic Materials are produced at high standards that meet upcoming regulations. A question we commonly get asked when it comes to meeting the EU Batteries Regulation due diligence obligations… “𝗜𝗳 𝗜 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗱𝘆?” Circulor’s CEO Douglas Johnson-Poensgen answers the question head-on in this brief video, with advice to companies that they get started now. Battery passports are a valuable tool for businesses and consumers. Although some regulatory uncertainties remain on this topic, businesses across the value chain need to start implementing battery passport solutions today to avoid delaying the value opportunity. The Battery Pass recently published a list of recommended actions for policymakers that maximise the value of battery passports and minimise uncertainty. See these below ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ Michele Galatola Ilias Iakovidis Systemiq Ltd. acatech – Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften AUDI AG BASF Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology IPK FIWARE TWAICE Umicore BMW Group VDE Renewables GmbH
🔍 Policymaker actions to maximise the value of the EU Battery Passport As the EU Battery Passport moves from concept to implementation, policymakers have a pivotal role in maximising its value and minimising uncertainties. Our latest study, ‘Unlocking the Value of the EU Battery Passport’, outlines three key actions policymakers can take to support effective implementation and industry alignment: 1️⃣ Resolve regulatory uncertainties quickly: Standardise key data attributes and finalise technical definitions to provide clarity for businesses and streamline compliance. 2️⃣ Enable additional use cases: Support the passport as a B2B tool by endorsing a “beyond regulation” section. This includes facilitating data aggregation across passports for market insights and industry benchmarks. Integrate battery passports into deregistration and export processes to boost material recovery and potentially meet 5-20% of Europe’s projected primary material demand by 2045. 3️⃣Provide implementation support for battery passports and further DPPs: Help reduce implementation barriers - especially for SMEs - by creating test-beds, ensuring interoperability, and fostering industry and scientific collaboration. These steps are crucial for unlocking the full potential of the battery passport, enabling efficient data sharing, supporting the EU’s sustainability goals, and fostering a resilient circular economy. 👉 Learn more about these recommendations in our full study: https://lnkd.in/eUQ4agDv

How are digital product identifiers forging a more equitable energy transition? A digital identifier, via a QR code, that shares the battery’s unique composition, charging rates, and state of health gives consumers assurance that their purchase of a used zero emissions vehicle meets certain requirements. This level of transparency through California’s ACCII regulations instills confidence for underserved communities in adopting used EVs and hybrids, creating broader uptake of zero emission transportation and reducing tailpipe emissions both in underserved communities and the state as a whole. Our latest newsletter discusses ACCII in more detail: https://lnkd.in/egiJQ4Ay Or learn more on the full scope of benefits of digital identifiers here: https://lnkd.in/ex_3SyRX #DigitalIdentifiers #ACCII #CARB #ZeroEmissions Douglas Johnson-Poensgen Ellen Carey Yue Jin Tay Bill Zierolf Shannon Carabetta Karolin Langfeldt Luise Müller-Hofstede Rhys Mason Jessica Green Ben Steinberg Qing Rong, Aloysius Lim Shehan Mathew

The Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) regulations, adopted by California’s Air Resources Board (CARB) in August 2022, sets a second phase of ambitious targets for California in reducing vehicle emissions, with all new vehicle sales to be zero emissions by 2035, with an interim target of 35% by 2026. In light of the U.S.’s recent elections, it’s important to note that CARB and president-elect Donald Trump have a historically contentious relationship—and it’s expected that the Trump Administration will try once again to revoke CARB’s emissions autonomy and authority. However, if the past is prologue, the majority of industry will opt for continuing to prepare for California’s requirements, moving forward with their already planned EV model lines. Read more in our latest newsletter. #ACCII #DigitalIdentifiers #CARB
